Doeden logs double-double in Rebels’ win over Panthers

SLAYTON — Calleigh Doeden had the hot hand for the Murray County Central girls basketball team in its non-conference matchup against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday afternoon, helping the Rebels pull away midway through the first half en route to a 58-43 win.
Doeden finished the day with a game-high 20 points on 9 of 18 shooting. Her 13 total rebounds and nine offensive rebounds were also both game-highs, leading the Rebels to a 40-28 edge on the glass with a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.
TMB outscored MCC by 7 points in the second half, but the Rebels’ 38-16 halftime lead was too much to overcome.
Ava Deacon also scored 14 points with six rebounds, four of which came on the offensive glass, for MCC. On the defensive end of the court, she set the tone with seven steals while Kat Miller and Kate Blankenship each snagged another six to earn a 19-23 edge in the turnover battle.
Gretchen Lanoue led TMB with 15 points on 5 of21 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers. Her seven rebounds were also a team-high and her two steals trailed only Melaina Ankrum and Lauren Knakmuhs, who each finished with two.
Kat Miller added 10 points with seven rebounds for MCC.
The Rebels improve to 6-3 on the season after picking up back-to-back wins following their three-game slide. The Rebels will look to keep their hot streak rolling when they host Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (6-3) for their third consecutive home game on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton falls to 3-7 and will look to shift momentum in its favor when it kicks off a three-game homestand against Wabasso (3-7) on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

MADISON — Claire Stratmoen exploded for 33 points, eight rebounds, five steals and shot 5 for 6 from the perimeter to power the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team to its third-straight win over Lac qui Parle Valley Friday night in a Camden Conference matchup.
Alivia Estling also had a big game with a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double along with another four steals.
The Blackjacks held a 37-28 lead at the half, but cruised ahead in the second with a strong defensive effort. Dawson-Boyd outrebounded the Eagles 44-31, and grabbed 17 steals on the night to LQPV’s five.
Kylar Hjemeland and Laura Schreier each finished with another 10 points. Stratmoen, Hjelmeland and Schreier each dished out five assists as well.
Dawson-Boyd played selflessly with 23 assists on its 28 made field goals.
The Blackjacks (4-6) will look to keep their momentum going when they host Lakeview (8-2) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
RRC 48, BLHS 44
LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season behind an all around well-balanced team effort on both ends of the floor, defeating Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 48-44 in a non-conference matchup.
Austin Imker led the Falcons with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Henry Stavnes scored a team-high 18 points along with nine rebounds and three assists.
Carter Therkilsen was also strong down low to lead RRC with 11 rebounds.
RRC (1-7) has a quick turnaround and has the tall task of hosting an undefeated Wabasso (7-0) team today with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
