Zick’s 34 points lead Panthers past RRC

TRACY — Griffin Zick exploded for 34 points for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team on Tuesday, leading the Panthers past Red Rock Central for an 85-57 non-conference win.
Zick shot 11 of 17 from the field with a 3-pointer in the win, and also shot 11 of 13 from beyond the arc. His seven total rebounds also ranked fourth on the team, and he came up with a block and a steal on the defensive end.
Sy Sanders and Jackson Kruse each grabbed 11 total rebounds for TMB, including seven on the offensive glass for Kruse. The two also tied with a team-high six assists.
Henry Stavnes led RRC with 23 points and came away with a pair of steals on defense while Jordan Therkilsen added 11 points with five assists.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-0) hosts Renville County West (0-1) for its Camden Conference opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Red Rock Central (0-2) will play its conference opener on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., taking on Murray County Central (0-0) in Slayton in Red Rock Conference play.
Lakeview 68, YME 37
GRANITE FALLS — Trevor Tusberg led a group of four Lakers in double figures on Tuesday night as the Lakeview boys basketball team defeated Yellow Medicine East 68-37.
Tusberg shot an efficient 8 of 9 from the field for 19 points. Braylon Breyfogle also added in another 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, while Nash Bigler went 3 of 4 from 3-point range for 11 points and Cody Helmke shot 4 of 4 for 10 points.
For the Sting, Connor Fagen led the way with 21 points and tied Cooper McCosh with six rebounds. Fagen also blocked four shots to provide an important interior presence on defense.
Lakeview (2-0) takes on Wabasso (1-0) for a non-conference matchup in Wabasso on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. while Yellow Medicine East (0-1) also prepares for a non-conference road game against Benson on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team bounced back from its season-opening loss to Dawson-Boyd with a lopsided win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in its Red Rock Conference opener on Tuesday. The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Coyotes 78-39.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (1-1) continues its Red Rock Conference slate on Tuesday when it heads to Westbrook to take on the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers (0-1) at 7:30 p.m.
Edgerton 80, Canby 47
CANBY — Owen Peterson tallied a game-high 18 points behind four 3-pointers, but the Canby boys basketball team suffered an 80-47 loss to Edgerton Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup.
Brennan Johnson followed with another 7 points, as did Jace Rangaard with 6 points. Will Abrahamson had 5 points along with his team-high four rebounds and three steals.
Peterson’s 18 points came on 7 for 17 shooting, who also had two assists.
Canby (0-1) travels to Granite Falls to take on Yellow Medicine East (0-1) in Camden Conference play on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Wabasso 95, RCW 86
WABASSO — Brayden Guetter’s 41 points powered the Wabasso boys basketball team to a 95-86 season-opening win Tuesday night over Renville County West in a non-conference game.
Guetter shot 14 for 23 from the field, and also had six rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Drew Kemp also had a hot-hand for the Rabbits, finishing with 23 points behind a team-best four 3-pointers.
Although Wabasso struggled with turnovers, giving up 25, its offensive production made up for its mistakes and shot 36 for 60 from the field collectively.
Jack Burns also had 10 points.
Caden Frericks led the way with 11 rebounds, also dishing out three assists.
Frericks, Kemp and Burns all had two steals as well.
Wabasso (1-0) hosts Lakeview (2-0) for a non-conference matchup in its next game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
