Voigt’s second 20-20 game lead Marshall past STC

Marshall 68, St. Cloud Tech 65
ST. CLOUD — Sophomore forward Oliver Voigt tallied a 23-point, 21-rebound double-double performance to help the Marshall boys basketball team come out on top with a 68-65 competitive win over St. Cloud Tech on the road Friday night in a battle of the Tigers.
Marshall’s defensive rebounding ultimately made the difference in the game with 35 boards to St. Cloud’s 14, and had 45 total rebounds on the night while St. Cloud had 22.
JR Vierstraete was the lone other player for Marshall to score in double figures, finishing the night with 11 along with his seven rebounds.
Marshall gave up 28 turnovers on the night as St. Cloud grabbed 15 steals to Marshall’s 9. But, Marshall shot efficiently from the field at 50% to make up for its errors, along with a 42.9% shooting mark at the perimeter going 3 for 7.
Marshall also had a strong presence at the free throw line, going 21 for 35, while St. Cloud had 20 total free throw attempts, making 10.
St. Cloud was limited to a 32.4% mark from the field and 28.1% at the 3-point line.
Levi Maeyaert had a team-high three assists, along with three rebounds and 5 points.
Marshall moves to 2-0 to start the season, and will stay on the road for its final of a three-game road trip on Tuesday at Worthington (1-1) at 7:15 p.m.
Marshall will have its home opener next Friday, Dec. 12, hosting Tri-City United (0-3) at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 75, MACCRAY 42
CLARA CITY — Jaxtad Hastad logged a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Gunner Liebl had a team-high 21 points and eight assists to lead the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team in a 75-42 win over MACCRAY Friday night.
Hastad shot 9-for-13 from the field and also had a trio of steals, while Carver Schwegel had the hot hand from the perimeter, shooting 4-for-5 and finishing with 12 points.
Cale Tufto also drilled in three 3-pointers for 9 points, while Ace Larson had another seven rebounds along with Landon Malecek.
Carson Stratmoen returned to the court, who was not available for the Blackjacks’ season-opener last week, and recorded 8 points with a pair of 3-pointers, two assists, and another three steals.
Dawson-Boyd had 10 steals and 40 rebounds on the night, while the Wolverines had just 18 boards to their eight steals.
Both teams gave up 16 turnovers.
Overall, Dawson-Boyd shot 49% from the field and 44% from the 3-point line, and held MACCRAY to 30-23% clips.
The Blackjacks (2-0) will next have its home opener on Monday, welcoming in Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
RCW 78, TMB 56
TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team faced just a 3-point deficit at halftime, but couldn’t fully get its momentum going to finish out the night and fell to Renville County West 78-56 Friday evening.
The Panthers were down 42-39 at the break, but the Jaguars’ eight blocks and just 11 fouls helped to slow down TMB the rest of the way. TMB finished with 16 fouls and no blocks.
Three different players for TMB finished in double figures, led by Connor Lanoue’s 13 points and trio of 3-pointers.
Griffin Zick and Jackson Kruse followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Aiden Sanow had a strong performance with a near double-double, tallying 9 points to his team-high 10 rebounds. Sy Sanders had another seven boards to his 4 points. Emergy Xiong led TMB with five assists.
RCW shot 54% from the field and held TMB to just 30%, and were powered by Johnathan’s 24 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.
TMB (1-1) will next have its first road game of the season and will take on Lakeview (2-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
ACGC 77, YME 72
GRANITE FALLS — Kia Greycloud finished with 24 points, three rebounds and three steals, but the Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team fell just short 77-72 to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Friday night.
The Sting outplayed the Falcons defensively with 19 rebounds and 14 steals, but YME’s 19 turnovers ultimately became a gamechanger as ACGC only committed eight turnovers. The Falcons finished with 11 rebounds and just one steal.
Three other players scored double figures for YME, with Gunnar Fagen going for 18 and Gavin Torvik following with another 15 points. Fagen had a team-high seven rebounds, while Calen Almich led with six assists and five steals.
ACGC shot 63% from the field and 60% from the perimeter, and held YME to 48-29% marks.
YME falls to 0-3 to start the season, and will next look to pick up its first win when the Sting host Canby (0-1) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
