Guetter’s near-triple-double boosts Wabasso past SE

Wabasso 101, Sleepy Eye 71
SLEEPY EYE — Brayden Guetter finished one assist shy of a 29-point triple-double on Friday night, leading the Wabasso boys basketball team to a dominant 101-71 win over Sleepy Eye in Tomahawk Conference play. Guetter scored a game-high 29 points on 12 of 21 shooting from the field while knocking down half of his four 3-point attempts. He also dished out a team-leading nine assists on three turnovers, and his 13 rebounds trailed only Caden Frericks’ 16.
Frericks was the team’s leader on the glass, with six of his rebounds coming on the offensive end. He also scored 21 points on 9 of 16 shooting, and dished out four assists. He, Drew Kemp and Jack Burns each came away with a pair of steals on the defensive end.
Kemp and Burns each scored in double figures with 18 and 11 points, respectively, while Tavyn Larson knocked down four of his five field goal attempts for eight points, and dished out six assists with just one turnover.
Guetter and Burns each blocked two shots.
Wabasso (4-0) next takes on Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (3-1) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Minneota 57, HLOF 55
WESTBROOK — A sizable edge in the turnover battle gave the Minneota boys basketball team the juice it needed to pick up a non-conference win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Friday night. The Vikings came up with 16 steals in the game as they held off the Coyotes for a 57-55 win.
Leo Hennen finished the night as Minneota’s leading scorer, contributing 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field and knocking down three of his six attempts from beyond the arc.
Ian Myhre also chipped in 11 points with a pair of 3-pointers each. As a team, Minneota shot 33% from the field and 30% from 3-point range.
The Vikings finished the night with a 17-24 edge in the turnover battle. Kellen Bradley helped set the tone there with four steals while Stassen and Tristen Sussner each came away with another three.
Hunter Castensen and Myhre each grabbed five rebounds for the Vikings.
Minneota (1-0) remains in Westbrook for the weekend, taking on the hosting Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers (2-1) today at 3 p.m.
WWG 64, Lakeview 43
WESTBROOK — Drew Swanson’s all-around effort propelled the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to a non-conference win over Lakeview on Friday. The Charger guard led WWG with 27 points, eight steals and five assists as the Chargers cruised to a 64-43 win.
Tucker Krick and Jackson Jenniges also contributed heavily on the boards with nine and seven rebounds, respectively, with Jenniges also coming away with four steals.
Ian Taylor and Cody Helmke led Lakeview with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Neil Kuehl also scored 11 points for WWG.
Both Lakeview (2-3) and Westbrook-Walnut Grove (2-1) will remain in Westbrook for the weekend, with the Lakers taking on Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (0-4) today at 1:30 p.m. and the Chargers following with a matchup against Minneota (1-0) at 3 p.m.
SWMC 69, RTR 54
TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team came up just short in a 69-54 loss to Southwest Minnesota Christian Friday night.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (1-2) travels to Edgerton on Thursday for a matchup against the Dutchmen (2-1) at 7:15 p.m.
