Stensrud, Schmidt lead Lakers to 69-31 win over Montevideo

Lakeview 69, Montevideo 31
MONTEVIDEO — The Lakeview girls basketball team picked up its fifth-straight win Tuesday night, taking down Montevideo 69-31 powered by Brynn Stensrud and Anah Schmidt’s 32 combined points.
The Lakers took control early with a 42-20 halftime lead, and only allowed 11 points throughout the second half to cruise to victory.
Schmidt led the team with 17 points, four steals and six rebounds, and shot 7 for 9 at the free throw line, while Stensrud followed with 15 points with a pair of 3-pointers, two assists and five rebounds.
Lakeview also had a relatively clean game, only committing 11 turnovers on the night.
Jovie Benson was the third Laker to finish in double figures with 12 points, also with a pair of 3s.
Lakeview (5-1) will look to continue its win streak on Thursday when it goes on the road to take on Canby (2-3) in Camden Conference play at 7:15 p.m.
No. 9 Delano 81, No. 2 Marshall 77
DELANO — The hot shooting and offensive rebounding of the No. 9 Delano Tigers were too much for the No. 2 Marshall girls basketball team to overcome in Tuesday’s road non-conference matchup. Delano shot 50% from 3-point range to down Marshall 81-77.
The game was tied up at 60 points apiece late, but Delano scored 10 unanswered points to storm ahead and never looked back.
Reese Drake led Marshall offensively with 22 points on 8 of 19 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers made. She also dished out eight assists on four turnovers and grabbed eight defensive rebounds.
While Marshall had a strong shooting night, going 11 of 28 from beyond the arc, Delano shot 14 of 28. Delano also built a 7-3 edge on the offensive glass.
Taleigha Bigler also had a well-rounded game out of the Marshall backcourt, scoring 19 points on 5 of 11 shooting and knocking down seven of her nine attempts from the charity stripe. Her seven rebounds trailed only Drake’s eight and her two steals trailed only Danielle Nubile’s four.
Avery Schneekloth and Nubile chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Addie Iversen and Abbie Pietila led Delano with 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Marshall (5-2) closes out the week on the road, taking on Waseca (0-5) on Friday at 6 p.m.
Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 89, Wabasso 22
SLEEPY EYE — The Wabasso girls basketball team struggled to get momentum going, suffering an 89-22 loss to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Tuesday night. Ava Samyn led the Rabbits, scoring half the points, with 11.
Wabasso struggled to protect the ball, committing 33 turnovers, but had a strong rebounding effort with 24. Kenley Guetter had a team-high eight boards.
Wabasso (1-6) aims to get back in the win column when it hosts New Ulm Cathedral (1-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Border West 61, Dawson-Boyd 57
GRACEVILLE — Holding a 2-point lead at halftime, the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team ultimately came up just short in a 61-57 loss to Border West Tuesday night on the road. Claire Stratmoen led the way with 23 points and three steals.
The Blackjacks held onto a 29-27 edge at the half, but were outworked on the defensive end as Border West finished with 36 rebounds and 13 steals to Dawson-Boyd’s 22 rebounds and eight steals.
Stratmoen shot a team-best 4 for 6 from the 3-point line, while Alyssa Swedzinski followed with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Laura Schreier added in another 12 points.
Stratmoen and Kylar Hjelmeland each had four rebounds as well.
Dawson-Boyd shot 33% from the field, while Border West had a slight upper-hand at 36%.
Dawson-Boyd (1-4) will look to snap a four-game skid when it hosts No. 5 Central Minnesota Christian (5-0) for its next game on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
RTR 52, SWMC 34
EDGERTON — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team picked up its second-straight win Tuesday night, defeating Southwest Minnesota Christian 52-34.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (3-3) next competes on Friday in a road matchup against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (4-1) at 7:30 p.m.
No. 5 CMC 67, TMB 19
PRINSBURG — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team suffered a 67-19 loss to fifth-ranked Central Minnesota Christian Tuesday night, marking its fifth-straight loss.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-5) looks to end its skid on Thursday when it hosts Yellow Medicine East (2-3) at 7:15 p.m.
Canby 54, RCW 38
RENVILLE — The Canby girls basketball continued to string together wins after a slow start to the season on Tuesday, defeating Renville County West 54-38 to pick up its second consecutive victory after an 0-3 start.
Canby (2-3) aims to get to .500 on the year when it hosts Lakeview (5-1) for a Camden Conference matchup on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
HBC 71, MCC 45
HILLS — The Murray County Central girls basketball team fell short of handing Hills-Beaver Creek its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling 71-45 to the Patriots.
The Rebels drop to 4-3 on the season after a 4-0 start, though two of those losses have come against undefeated teams in HBC and Class 2A Pipestone. MCC will look to return to its winning ways on Friday when it hosts Southwest Minnesota Christian (2-4) at 7:15 p.m.
WWG 75, RRC 36
WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team got back above .500 on Wednesday, picking up a 75-36 win over Red Rock Central in Red Rock Conference play.
Celia Vogel led the Falcons with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Kendra Schroeder added another three assists, three steals and 6 points.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (4-3) aims to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this year when it goes on the road to take on Hills-Beaver Creek (4-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Red Rock Central (0-7) will look to get into the win column when it hosts Mankato Loyola (0-5) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Lamberton.
