Rebels snap three-game skid over SWMC

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a dominant 54-18 win over Southwest Minnesota Christian Friday night, powered behind Ava Deacon and Calleigh Doeden’s combined 23 points.
Deacon had an all-around well-balanced night with a team-high 13 points, four assists and seven steals to her seven rebounds.
Doeden followed with 10 points, while Kat Miller led the Rebels with nine rebounds. Reese Gilbertson had another eight boards on the night along with seven steals.
MCC made a statement on the defensive end with 22 total steals and 34 rebounds.
The Rebels (5-3) will next return to the court after the new year to host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-6) on Jan. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
MLAC 53, RTR 52
MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team fell in a back-and-forth battle against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey Friday night on the road, coming up just short 53-32.
RTR (3-4) will next stay on the road to take on Dawson-Boyd (1-4) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Lakeview 61, TMB 44
TRACY — The Lakeview girls basketball team picked up its sixth-straight win Friday night on the road, defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 61-44 behind Brynn Stensrud’s 19 points and four assists. The loss marks six consecutive for the Panthers.
Stensrud shot 4 for 7 from deep, while Brook Gunlogson also added 10 points and four assists.
Anah Schmidt had a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Lakers shot 40% from the field and went 6 of 14 from the 3-point line.
TMB (2-6) will stay at home and look to pick up a win over Red Rock Central (0-8) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The Lakers (6-1) will stay on the road and travel to take on Wabasso (2-6) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
YME 80, Montevideo 49
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team picked up a big 80-49 win over Montevideo Friday night.
YME (3-3) will next host Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (2-6) at 6 p.m. on Monday.
HLOF 54, WWG 47
FULDA — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team couldn’t quite come away with a win in a competitive fight, falling to Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Friday night 54-47.
The Chargers (4-4) will next play in the holiday tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University, taking on Canby (2-3) on Dec. 30 at 11 a.m.
Wabasso 56, NUC 41
WABASSO — Kenley Guetter’s dominant 20-point, 26-rebound double-double performance powered the Wabasso girls basketball team to a 56-41 win over New Ulm Cathedral Friday night, snapping a three-game losing skid.
Guetter shot 5 for 9 from the field and 10 of 13 from the charity stripe, and also had a pair of assists.
The Rabbits held on to a 22-20 halftime edge, and exploded in the second half to pull away from New Ulm. Both teams committed 14 turnovers on the night.
Ava Samyn also finished with 15 points to her nine rebounds, while Cassie Bliss led the team with three steals. Audrey Johnsen dished out a team-high four assists.
Wabasso (2-6) will host Lakeview (6-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
A/E 70, RRC 35
LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central girls basketball team suffered a 70-35 loss to Adrian/Ellsworth Friday night.
Brai Olson led the Falcons with 9 points, four steals and four assists. Paige Wondercheck added in another 6 points with her five rebounds.
Red Rock Central (0-8) will hit the road to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-6) on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
No. 5 CMC 83, Dawson-Boyd 40
DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team suffered an 83-40 loss to fifth-ranked Central Minnesota Christian Friday night.
Claire Stratmoen led the Blackjacks with 16 points and five steals, while Laura Schreier followed with another 6 points.
Alivia Estling had a team-high six rebounds.
Dawson-Boyd (1-5) will look to pick up a win when it hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (3-4) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
