Larson’s perfect shooting leads Wabasso past SESM 102-60

Wabasso 102, SESM 60

SLEEPY EYE — Four Rabbits scored 15 or more points for the Wabasso boys basketball team in its Tomahawk Conference game against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday, with the well-rounded scoring effort paying off in a 102-60 win.

Tavyn Larson was perfect from the field on the day, knocking each of his nine field-goal attempts for 21 points. He also knocked down his lone 3-point attempt and both of his tries from the charity stripe.

Caden Frericks was the Rabbits’ leading scorer, contributing 25 points on an efficient 12 of 15 shooting. He also grabbed 21 total rebounds, nine of which were on the offensive glass

Drew Kemp and Brayden Guetter each finished in double figures as well with 18 and 15 points, respectively, as the Rabbits were hot from all areas of the court.

Guetter dished out a team-high six assists, while Kemp led with three steals.

Wabasso finished with eight 3-pointers, 43 rebounds, 24 assists on its 45 made field goals, nine steals and four blocks for an all-around well-balanced team effort.

Jack Burns led with a pair of blocks.

Wabasso (5-0) has its biggest test of the season approaching on Thursday, when it hosts No. 5 Dawson-Boyd (5-1) for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.

Delano 53, Marshall 52

DELANO — The Marshall boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to Delano 53-52 in a game that came down to the final seconds after a back-and-forth battle of the Tigers.

Marshall and Delano traded several leads in the final minutes of the game. Marshall led 48-47 with 2:39 to go, before Delano got in front 52-50 with 50 seconds left. Another free throw put Delano ahead with 17 seconds, as a final Marshall bucket with nine seconds left wasn’t quite enough to end the night in the win column.

Levi Maeyaert led the scoring for Marshall with 18 points, and shot 4 for 6 from the perimeter with another six rebounds.

Oliver Voigt recorded another double-double, finishing with 11 points and a team-high 12 boards. Andrew Lee also scored in double figures with 10 points, while JR Vierstraete and Brody Reiss each grabbed another six rebounds as well.

Marshall outrebounded Delano 48-23, primarily on the offensive glass, but Delano grabbed three more steals and committed one less turnover in the end.

Marshall had five steals and 14 turnovers, to Delano’s eight steals and 13 turnovers.

The two teams were evenly matched on the shooting end, making for a competitive atmosphere. Marshall shot 34% from the field, 26% at the 3 and 50% at the charity stripe, while Delano shot in 36-25-43% clips.

Marshall (4-1) goes on the road to take on Waseca (1-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview 68, Minneota 56

MINNEOTA — The Lakeview boys basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 68-56 win over Minneota Tuesday night behind Braylon Breyfogle’s 22-point, 10-rebound double-double.

The Lakers forced 14 Vikings’ turnovers, while only committing three themselves, with efficient shooting in the field.

Cody Helmke also finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Trevor Varpness added another 10 points.

Minneota had a strong presence on the glass, outrebounding Lakeview 36-30, heavily on the offensive glass 20-7.

For the Vikings, Jase Sorensen led the way with 19 points behind a trio of 3-pointers. Creed Stassen and Kyson Arndt had nine and eight rebounds, respectively, to lead the Vikings.

Kellen Bradley and Hunter Carstensen each had a pair of steals as well.

Overall, Lakeview shot 47% from the field and held Minneota to 32%.

Minneota (1-2) next travels to Tracy to take on the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers (3-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. Lakeview (3-4) goes on the road to take on Renville County West (4-2) on Thursday at 7:30 pm.

TMB 78, Canby 44

TRACY — Connor Lanoue and Griffin Zick each scored 18 points to lead the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team to a 78-44 win over Canby Tuesday night.

The Panthers controlled all areas of the court, outrebounding the Lancers 36-16 with 15 steals and forcing 23 Canby turnovers. Canby had 10 steals. TMB also had 19 assists on its 29 made field goals, and shot 58% while holding the Lancers to 35%.

Along with Lanoue and Zick, Jackson Kruse and Aiden Sanow followed with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Lanoue also had a team-high five assists and shared a team-best seven rebounds with Kruse, Sanow and Eli Lightfoot.

For Canby, four players scored in double figures, led by Hunter Kack and Jace Rangaard’s 11 points each. Casey Hoiland and Owen Peterson followed with 10 points apiece. Peterson led the Lancers with seven rebounds.

Canby (1-3) returns to its home court on Friday to host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (1-2) at 7:30 p.m. TMB (3-1) remains on its home court to host Minneota (1-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.

No. 5 Dawson-Boyd 76, LQPV 44

DAWSON — Jaxton Hastad erupted for 29 points with seven rebounds on Tuesday night to lead the No. 5 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a 76-44 Camden Conference win over Lac qui Parle Valley.

Hastad shot 12 of 18 from the field in the win. His seven rebounds also tied Landon Malecek for a team-high, with Malecek leading the team with four boards on the offensive glass and Hastad snagging another three.

Gunner Liebl scored 19 points for the Vikings and tied Hastad and Cale Tufto with three assists each.

Liebl, Malecek, Hastad and Evan Menning each blocked a shot in the game.

Dawson-Boyd (5-1) next goes on the road as it attempts to hand Wabasso (5-0) its first loss of the season on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

RCW 64, YME 61

RENVILLE — Kia Greycloud led the Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team with 32 points and eight steals, but the Sting came up just short of its first win of the season with a 64-61 loss to Renville County West Tuesday night.

Greycloud shot 51% from the field going 14 for 27, and also grabbed seven rebounds on the night.

Cooper McCosh had a team-high nine rebounds, while Gunnar Fagen finished with another 15 points.

RCW shot 47% from the field and held the Sting to 37%, and held onto a 64-61 lead at halftime. YME outrebounded the Jaguars 28-12.

Yellow Medicine East (0-4) returns to action on Monday when it goes to Lamberton for a non-conference matchup against Red Rock Central (0-4) at 7:15 p.m.
