Kluis posts double-double in MCC’s win over WWG

SLAYTON — Dugan Kluis posted a trio of game-highs with 13 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists in the Murray County Central boys basketball team’s Red Rock Conference matchup against Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Monday night. The Rebels capitalized on the performance, overcoming an 8-point deficit at halftime for a 58-47 win.
The Rebels trailed 28-20 at the break before flipping momentum around in the second half to secure the win.
Kluis grabbed four of his 14 rebounds on the offensive glass and his 13 points tied teammate Carter Hanson for a game-high. Hanson also spaced the floor with his shooting, knocking down three of his six attempts from beyond the arc.
Jackson Jenniges and Max Wiborg each finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds for WWG while Drew Swanson scored 12 points for the Chargers.
Aiden Swenson scored eight points with seven rebounds and three blocks for MCC.
MCC improves to 2-1 on the season and heads to Edgerton on Thursday to take on Southwest Minnesota Christian (3-0) at 7:15 p.m. while Westbrook-Walnut Grove falls to 3-2 and goes on the road to take on Adrian/Ellsworth (0-3) at the same time.
WWG 77, Minneota 58
WESTBROOK — Neil Kuehl exploded for 22 points while Max Wiborg and Jackson Jenniges added another 15 each for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team on Saturday, leading the Chargers to a 77-58 non-conference win over Minneota.
Kuehl shot 7 of 11 from the field and knocked down each of his seven attempts from the free-throw line to lead the Chargers’ scoring efforts in the game. Jenniges spaced the floor with his shooting, going 5 of 9 from 3-point range, and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Wiborg was the game’s leading offensive rebounder, grabbing three on the attacking end of the court and finishing with eight total rebounds.
Easton Johnston led Minneota’s scorers with 11 points, followed by 10 apiece from Jase Sorensen and Creed Stassen.
Drew Swanson also scored 12 points for WWG.
Stassen was the Vikings’ leading rebounder with seven boards.
Minneota falls to 1-1 on the year and hosts Lakeview (2-4) tonight at 7 p.m.
No. 6 MACA 66,
No. 5 Dawson-Boyd 53
DAWSON –The Class 2A No. 6 Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta Tigers handed the No. 5 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team its first loss of the season, building a 1-point lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half for a 66-53 win.
Dawson-Boyd trailed 34-33 at the midway point, but the Tigers outscored the Blackjacks 32-30 after the break.
Gunner Liebl carried the Dawson-Boyd scoring load in the game with 24 points on 10 of 23 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers. He also dished out a game-high four assists on one turnover, and came away with a steal on the defensive end.
Landon Malacek led the Blackjacks on the glass with eight rebounds, including three on the offensive end, while Jaxton Hastad grabbed another six with four steals and a block.
Dawson-Boyd falls to 4-1 on the year with the loss and will look to get back into form when it hosts Lac qui Parle Valley (0-4) tonight at 7:30 p.m.
HLOF 62, Lakeview 52
WESTBROOK — A strong scoring effort from Cody Helmke wasn’t enough to put the Lakeview boys basketball team on top in its Saturday non-conference matchup against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, with the Coyotes downing the Lakers by a score of 62-52.
Helmke led the Laker scorers with 22 points in the game.
Lakeview falls to 2-4 on the season and looks to avoid its fifth consecutive loss when it goes on the road to take on Minneota (1-1) tonight at 7 p.m.
