Hastad, Liebl propel DB to dominant win over HLA

No. 7 Dawson-Boyd 74, Hillcrest Lutheran 50
ST. CLOUD — Jaxton Hastad and Gunner Liebl each recorded their second straight double-doubles to lead the No. 7 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a 74-50 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Saturday afternoon at St. Cloud Apollo.
Hastad led the Blackjacks with 25 points on 60% shooting and 17 rebounds, while Liebl followed with 20 points and a team-high 10 assists.
Cale Tufto also finished in double digits with 13 points on 4 of 6 shooting, and shot 2 for 4 from the perimeter.
Liebl grabbed seven rebounds on the night and two steals, as did Carson Stratmoen with a pair of steals, 6 points and five rebounds.
Dawson-Boyd and Hillcrest fought in a defensively-competitive battle, with the Blackjacks finishing with 42 rebounds and six steals to Hillcrest’s 38 boards and nine steals.
But, Dawson-Boyd’s selfless offensive play made the difference with 16 assists on its 31 made field goals to Hillcrest’s five assists.
Overall, the Blackjacks shot 47% from the field and held Hillcrest to a 26% shooting clip.
Dawson-Boyd (7-1) will return home to host Southwest Minnesota Christian (4-0) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
BLHS 74, YME 44
HECTOR — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team suffered a 74-44 loss to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Monday night, and were led by Gavin Torvik’s 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The Sting struggled on the shooting end, finishing the night 26% from the field, and went 2 of 21 from the perimiter, both made by Torvik. BLHS shot 49% with 10-made 3-pointers.
Kolten Blankenhagen followed with 8 points and a team-high three steals, while Liam Anderson grabbed another six rebounds along with two assists.
YME outrebounded BLHS 33-26 and had eight steals to the Mustangs’ five.
The Sting (1-6) will look to bounce back today at Lakeview’s holiday tournament when they take on Nicollet (5-2) at 4 p.m.
Nicollet 83, Lakeview 69
COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview boys basketball team was unable to start its home holiday tournament off with a win on Monday night, falling 83-69 against Nicollet.
Lakeview drops to 3-7 on the season and aims to end its three-game skid when it hosts Ortonville (2-6) to close out the tournament tonight at 7:30 p.m.
RTR 64, Hancock 56
MARSHALL — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team came away with a 64-56 win over Hancock Saturday afternoon in Marshall at the first day of the Marshall Hoops Club Holiday Tournament.
The Knights (3-4) will travel to take on Lakeview (3-6) at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
