WORTHINGTON — Junior forward Brooklyn Mauch scored her 100th career goal Thursday night and notched her second straight game with a hat trick, finishing with four goals, as the Marshall girls hockey team cruised past Worthington 7-1. Senior forward Abbey Foley also scored her first goal of the season.

Mauch and Foley powered the Tigers with 6 and 5 points, respectively. Mauch added to a pair of assists to her statline along with Foley’s goal and team-high four assists.

Mauch has been off to yet another impressive start to the season, leading the Tigers with 14 goals through the first five games. She recorded her first hat trick of the year on Tuesday in a 6-1 win over Hutchinson. Foley also currently leads Marshall with 12 assists.

Lily Stelter again protected the net for Marshall for the entire game, saving eight of the nine shots she faced for an .889 save percentage.

Mauch split her scoring with a pair of goals in the first period and her next two in the second, with her 100th-marked goal coming in the opening minutes of the second period to put the Tigers ahead 4-1.

Marshall’s offense was too much for the Trojans from the jump with 18 shots on goal to Worthington’s four in the first period. The Tigers continued to run the rest of the way, finishing the night with a large margin of 43-9 on-goal attempts.

Worthington was the first to get on the board in the seventh minute of the first period from Breeta Johnsson on even strength, yet the Tigers tied the score up immediately a minute later from Peyton DeMuth, assisted by Mauch and Foley, and Marshall never looked back.

Mauch scored three unanswered goals to end the first period and start the second, all on even strength. Two of the three were taken up the rink unassisted, with another coming off a Foley and Lucie Pearson assist.

Pearson then got involved on the scoring action herself five minutes into the second period with a goal to give Marshall a 5-1 lead. Mauch followed that up with her fourth and final goal of the day, as Foley assisted on both.

Marshall scored four goals alone throughout the second period to build the 7-1 edge, ultimately becoming the final score as both teams held one another off defensively throughout the third.

Foley scored the final goal of the night in the ninth minute of the second, assisted by Mauch and DeMuth.

All goals were scored on even strength, with there only being three penalties. Marshall had two minor penalties from a Brystal Walling hooking call and a Brielle Felton Krog cross-checking. Worthington had one tripping penalty.

Marshall (5-0) will look to keep the win streak going when it remains on the road to take on Albert Lea (4-0) on Monday with a 6:45 p.m. puck drop.
