Marshall sends 12 swimmers to 3A finals
WILLMAR — Finley Pelz, Alex Brown and Hailey Larsen each qualified for the 500-yard freestyle final for the Marshall swim and dive team in Thursday’s Section 3A meet preliminaries. The Tigers finished the meet with 12 section final qualifications and will compete again on Saturday with state meet berths on the line.
Pelz led Marshall’s trio of qualifiers in the 500-yard freestyle with a fifth-place time of 5:28.05 to get into the top heat on Saturday. Brown also placed ninth at 5:47.48 while Larsen was the final qualifier in the event at 6:04.13.
Pelz and Brown finished the meet with a pair of individual qualifications for each of them. Pelz also placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:03.05 while Brown took 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:16.70.
Aaliyah Podratz joined Brown in qualifying in the breaststroke, finishing 10th in the event at 1:14.66.
Autumn Deutz also earned a spot in the top heat of her event, placing sixth in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries at 25.73.
Deutz, Pelz, Podratz, Leah Hybbert, and Grace Rokeh each earned a pair of relay qualifications.
In the 400-yard freestyle, a team of Podratz, Rokeh, Pelz and Deutz placed fifth at 3:58.37. In the 200-yard freestyle, Rokeh, Hybbert Pelz and Deutz swam a time of 1:46.85 to take eighth place. The 200-yard medley was Marshall’s final relay qualification, with Lewis, Podratz, Larsen and Hybbert placing eighth at 2:04.29.
Grace Rokeh qualified in the 200-yard freestyle as an individual with a 15th-place time of 2:11.80, while Lewis placed 14th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:09.37 to move on.
The 3A swim and dive finals will be held at Willmar High School today at 1 p.m.
