LAKEVILLE — The Marshall girls hockey team faced a 2-1 deficit entering the third period up against Class 2A’s Lakeville North, yet a game-tying goal by Brooklyn Mauch set up Elsie Deutz’s go-ahead goal minutes later to push the Tigers forward with a 3-2 win Friday night to remain undefeated on the early season.

Both teams were locked in with one another throughout the entire night, with the Panthers tallying 24 shots on goal to Marshall’s 23. The two also each committed four penalties for eight minutes.

Lily Stelter returned to the goal for the Tigers, saving 22 shots, to Lakeville North’s Bethany Bigalke with 20 saves.

Mauch got the scoring started with a goal in the first period, who finished with a game-high two goals, on even strength as the rest of the opening frame remained scoreless.

The Panthers scored their two goals in the second period, from Carly Hanson and Mali Carlson, both on power plays to take the one-goal lead up on the Tigers.

All four of Marshall’s penalties also came in the second period.

Mauch put away Marshall’s first goal of the final period to tie the score up, and Deutz found the open net just four minutes later unassisted for the lead, as the Tigers were able to hold off the Panthers defensively the rest of the way to save the win.

Lakeville North also entered the night 2-0, while Marshall improves to 3-0.

The Tigers are coming off a successful 2024-25 campaign at 23-5-2 overall, and made a state tournament berth and into the consolation championship game.

Marshall remains on the road for the second of a three-game road trip, and will face Hutchinson (3-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hutchinson Burich Arena.

Marshall will next return back to the Red Baron Arena next Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts South Central.

Starting at $3.95/week.
