WWG sweeps A/E, sets up 3A South rematch vs. No. 1S RTR

WORTHINGTON — Carlie Ross logged 22 kills and nine digs for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team in its matchup against Adrian/Ellsworth in the Section 3A South subsection semifinals on Tuesday. The second-seeded Chargers rolled to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 sweep to set up a rematch of last year’s subsection final against RTR.

In addition to Ross’ 22 kills, Sydney Foster also contributed with another 11 and finished second on the team with 13 digs. Leah VanDeWiele led the way with 18 digs.

Hadley Jenniges facilitated the offense with 30 set assists while Natasha Wahl served up an ace.

In the defensive front row, Myah Maznio and Leah Carter each put up an ace block, as well as three block assists for Maznio and two for Carter.

WWG will take on RTR in the subsection championship match at Southwest Minnesota State University on Thursday at 7 p.m. When the two teams met in last year’s subsection final, WWG upset the top-seeded Knights in four sets to advance to its first-ever section championship match.
