Stoll, Antony’s prolific air attack falls short in Canby loss to MACCRAY

Prep football roundup Oct. 23, 2025

CANBY — A pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns still left the No. 4 Canby football team shy of a comeback when it hosted No. 5 MACCRAY in the Section 4A quarterfinals on Tuesday night. The Lancers fell into a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter and were unable to recover, falling 24-22 to the Wolverines to end their season.

MACCRAY’s Peyton Schlagel blocked a Canby punt early in the first quarter to get the Wolverines on the board with a safety, and MACCRAY continued to surge ahead when Blake Grimsley returned the ensuing punt for a touchdown. Griffen Noble then ran the ball into the end zone for a 2-point conversion to make the score 10-0.

Canby trailed 18-7 heading into the final frame when Cody Stoll completed a 69-yard touchdown pass to Cash Antony to breathe life into the Lancer offense. Brennan Giese converted the 2-point attempt to cut the deficit to 2, but an 84-yard touchdown run from Grant Meyer gave the Wolverines a 24-15 lead.

With four seconds left in the game, Stoll again connected with Antony for a 16-yard touchdown pass, and the PAT trimmed MACCRAY’s lead to 2 points. Yet, the onside kick was unsuccessful and Grimsley took a knee with one second left to end the game with a Wolverine win.

Stoll completed 20 of his 42 pass attempts for 364 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Antony was a big part of the Lancers’ air-raid success with six catches for 147 yards while Daven VanEngen added another four catches for 73 yards. Brennan Giese also brought in three receptions for 57 yards.

Canby struggled on the ground, however, as they rushed for a net loss of yardage on the day.

Anthony caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Stoll in the first quarter to interrupt the MACCRAY scoring run and put Canby on the board. Yet, both teams went scoreless in the second quarter and Cooper Klinghagen intercepted a pass and returned it 97 yards for a touchdown to bring the Wolverines’ lead to 11 points.

Meyer ran the ball 12 times for 108 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines while Grimsley had 13 attempts for 84 yards. Grimsley completed two of his 11 pass attempts for 25 yards and an interception.

Canby finishes its season at 3-6 and graduates eight seniors in Stoll, Antony, Jace Sigler, Isaac Bollerud, Levi Fairchild, Parker Balvin, Dyllon Christianson and Jordan DePestel.
