Schafer’s 168 yards propel Lakers past MACCRAY

CLARA CITY — Garrett Schafer’s 168 rushing yards and three touchdowns led the Lakeview football team to a 26-6 win over MACCRAY Wednesday night in the regular season finale, securing the Lakers’ winning record going into playoffs.
Lakeview scored a touchdown in every quarter, along with a successful 2-point conversion in the fourth while the Wolverines’ lone score came in the second quarter.
Schafer’s 168 rushing yards came on 23 carries, and Chance Kosel followed with 93 yards on 16 carries.
The Lakers made a point to run the ball throughout the game’s entirety, who did not tally any passing yardage.
Braylon Breyfogle and Dustin Schlenner held it down on the defensive end, sharing a team-high of six tackles each, along with Schlenner and Kosel each grabbing a sack. The duo also each had a tackle-for-loss on the night. Schafer also had four solo tackles, while Breyfogle had an interception.
Overall, Lakeview finished with 292 total yards to MACCRAY’s 240. The Wolverines had 141 passing yards and 99 rushing.
Lakeview finishes the regular season 5-3, and will next await seeding for the section tournament. Quarterfinals are slated to begin next Tuesday at the higher seed’s field.
TMB 40, BOLD 12
OLIVIA — Aiden Sanow’s 250 passing yards and three touchdowns on nine passes powered the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team to a dominant 40-12 win Wednesday night to finish off the regular season, giving the Panthers a .500 record going into sections.
TMB finished the day 429 yards and11 first downs, to BOLD’s 203 yards and six first downs.
Along with Sanow, who also did not have any interceptions on the night, David Schuh led the Panthers with 119 rushing yards on 18 carries along with a pair of touchdowns.
On the receiving end, Griffin Zick led the way with 158 receiving yards on four catches, also running in two touchdowns for TMB.
TMB scored two touchdowns in every quarter, except for a scoreless fourth quarter. The Warriors scored their two touchdowns with one each in the third and fourth.
Defensively, the Panthers had three interceptions on the night and were led by Sy Sanders’ six tackles and one sack. Talon Brinkley followed with five tackles.
The Panthers finish the regular season 4-4, and will next head into the section tournament. Seeding will be released in the coming days, and quarterfinals will begin on Tuesday at the higher seed.
MCC 49, Canby 7
SLAYTON — The run-heavy offense of the Murray County Central football team was too much for Canby to handle on Wednesday night as the Rebels defeated the Lancers 49-7 to close out the regular season. The win gives MCC its sixth straight victory after starting the season 0-2 with losses to No. 9 Dawson-Boyd and No. 2 Springfield.
Dylan Christianson led the Canby offense with12 tackles in the game while Levi Fairchild and Cody Stoll added seven and six, respectively.
On the offensive side of the ball, Cody Stoll completed two of his nine pass attempts for the Lancers for 43 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown was a 39-yard completion to Daven VanEngen.

MCC finishes its regular season at 6-2 while Canby heads into the postseason at 3-5.
