RTR picks up 13th straight win in sweep over RRC

LAMBERTON — Brezlyn Buchert’s five blocks and 18 set assists powered the No. 4 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton to its 13th straight win in a sweep over Red Rock Central Tuesday night in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Knights won in sets of 25-6, 25-18 and 25-9.

RTR played with an all-around well-balanced effort on both sides of the court.

Offensively, Sara Thooft led with 14 kills while Ava Karbo and Paisley Thooft followed with eight and seven kills, respectively. Dru Ellefson also dished out another 15 set assists to pair with Buchert, and led the team with a trio of service aces.

On the defensive end, Laken Baartmen finished with 12 digs to Sara Thooft’s eight, while Buchert also had another six. Karbo also had a trio of blocks on the night.

For the Falcons, Abby Evans led the way with eight kills and Ally Linder tallied another seven.

Amelia Ubl held down the defensive end with 10 digs, followed by Keena Kosel’s nine.

Natasha Erickson paced the offense with 17 set assists, and both Linder and Evans had three blocks on the night.

RTR (23-5) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (13-11) for its regular-season finale on Monday at 7:15 p.m. in Tyler.

Red Rock Central (4-14) plays one last road match against Murray County Central (11-9) in Slayton on Monday at 7:15 p.m. before closing out the regular season in Lamberton against Wabasso (17-11) on Thursday.

No. 5 Canby 3, YME 0

CANBY — Grace Hansen’s seven service aces and Karlie Wollum’s 16 kills helped the No. 5 Canby volleyball pick up its fifth-straight win in a sweep over Yellow Medicine East Tuesday night for the Lancers’ final home game of the season.

Canby defeated the Sting in sets of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-10 in the Camden Conference South Division matchup.

Wollum’s 16 kills came on a .609 hitting percentage, who also had seven digs on the night.

Brynn Kockelman also had the hot-hand from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Emily Nelson tallied eight kills and eight digs to her team-high 22 set assists, while Kockelman followed with seven kills, six digs and 10 assists.

For YME, Lexi Stengel led the team with 14 set assists while Alana Almich recorded a team-high six kills. Bailey Mortenson followed with another four kills, as did Bayli Sneller with three.

Abbey Bones had a trio of ace blocks on the night to pair with two kills.

Canby (14-8) next goes on the road to take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (7-15) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. before heading up to a tournament at St. Michael-Albertville High School on Friday and Saturday.

Yellow Medicine East (5-16) hosts TMB on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. for the Sting’s final regular-season home match in Granite Falls.

SLAYTON — Despite Suttyn Schryvers’ 18 kills, 22 digs and three service aces, the Murray County Central volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss in a hard-fought battle to Adrian/Ellsworth Tuesday night in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Rebels fell in sets on 21-25, 21-25 and 23-25.

The Rebels were red-hot on the defensive side of the game, recording 128 total-team digs. Ava Deacon led with 37 digs, while Kate Blankenship followed with 28 more. Reese Gilbertson also had 11 digs on the night along with her 10 kills.

Deacon served a pair of aces to pair along with Schreyvers’ as well.

Addy Dierks paced the offense with a team-best 17 set assists, while Avery Thovson and Erynn Rohrer followed with 10 and 11 assists, respectively.

Murray County Central (11-9) welcomes Red Rock Central (4-14) into Slayton on Monday for the Rebels’ final regular-season home match at 7:15 p.m.

WWG 3, HBC 0

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team snapped a four-match losing skid with a sweep over Hills-Beaver Creek Tuesday night in a Red Rock Conference matchup. The Chargers won in sets of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-21 for their final regular-season home match of the season.

Hadley Jenniges set up the offense with 24 assists on the night, as Carlie Ross finished with a team-high 11 kills. Leah Carter followed with six, while Myah Maznio and Sage Bents each finished with five apiece.

On the defensive side, Leah VanDeWiele led with 14 digs and Ross followed with 12. Natasha Wahl also added nine digs.

Mazio finished with a team-best three blocks.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (17-9) opens its three-match road trip to end the season on Thursday, when it takes on Pipestone Area (14-5) at 7:15 p.m.

Wabasso 3, Springfield 0

WABASSO — Audrey Johnson and Alexa Remiger both served five aces to lead the Wabasso volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Springfield Tuesday night in the Rabbits’ final home game on the season in a Tomahawk Conference matchup. Wabasso won in sets of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-7.

Sara Carlson again paced the offense throughout the night with 25 set assists, while Carly Fenger and Camryn Irlbeck both finished with a team-high eight kills.

Irlbeck also had five blocks, and Kenley Guetter followed with six.

Defensively, Carlson led the Rabbits with six digs and Guetter finished with five.

Wabasso (17-11) heads out on the road to Lamberton on Thursday, wrapping up its regular season against Red Rock Central (4-14).
