MINNEOTA — The top-ranked Minneota football team tied its highest scoring mark of the season on Friday night, running for 227 yards and running away with a 69-6 win over Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday night.
Ian Myhre and Kellen Bradley got the Vikings’ offense rolling early, with Myhre catching a 2-yard touchdown pass from Tristen Sussner and Kellen Bradley punching in a 1-yard run to give the Vikings an early 14-0 lead. Jace Daline broke up the Vikings’ scoring run with a touchdown for the Eagles, but Easton Johnston promptly returned the ensuing kickoff for a 76-yard touchdown and a 21-6 lead.
The return was one of two on the day for Johnston, who also returned a punt 54 yards for a touchdown to end the third quarter with a 56-6 lead. He also had a 19-yard touchdown run to open the frame.
Bradley finished the day as Minneota’s leading rusher, carrying the ball six times for 72 yards and three touchdowns, including two touchdowns in the second quarter to head to halftime with a 45-6 lead.
In addition to his offensive touchdown and going six-for-six on extra-point attempts, Ian Myhre also made a defensive impact with a 42-yard pick 6 to open the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 62-6. He had two interceptions and recovered a fumble in the game.
Sussner completed eight of his 11 attempts for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Minneota, while Landon Esping was the team’s leading receiver with three catches for 54 yards.
Kyson Arndt had a sack and tied Jackson Lacek and Bradley with a team-leading two tackles for loss in the game. Bradley also had five solo and two assisted tackles to lead the defense.
Sam Myhre hauled in a 27-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter and Evan Jerzak scored the game’s final points with a 24-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Minneota (6-0) plays its final regular-season road game next week, heading to Granite Falls to take on Yellow Medicine East (0-5) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Lakeview 22, Canby 7
CANBY — Logan Herrick’s 128 passing yards and two touchdown passes along with Conner Moseng’s 10 tackles helped lead the Lakeview football team to a 22-7 win over Canby Friday night on the road.
The Lakers out-rushed the Lancers 226-16, led by Chance Kosel’s 122 yards on 18 carries. Garrett Schafer followed with another 95 yards on 15 carries, including one touchdown.
Lakeview built up a 16-0 lead after the first quarter to pull away early, and had brought in its final touchdown in the second quarter and was able to hold off Canby from embarking on a comeback.
The Lancers scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Lakeview struggled with penalties, finishing the night with eight penalties for 80 yards, to Canby’s two penalties and 15 yards.
Yet, Lakeview made up for it on both ends of the field to preserve the win.
Schafer also had 67-receiving yards on two catches, as did Braylon Breyfogle with 66 yards on a trio of catches. The duo each had a receiving touchdown as well.
For Canby, Landen Behrens led with 30 receiving yards on four catches.
Along with Moseng, Cody Helmke finished with five tackles on the night, while Teagan Neuman and Jaxon Hartke each had four.
Dyllon Christianson led the Lancers with seven tackles.
Lakeview (4-2) heads back to Cottonwood to host Dawson-Boyd (5-1) on Friday for its final regular-season home game at 7 p.m.
Canby (2-4) hosts Lac qui Parle Valley (0-6) for its final home game of the year on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 43, MACCRAY 0
DAWSON — Kameron Sather scored four total touchdowns for the Dawson-Boyd football team when it took on MACCRAY on Friday night for its final home game of the season. The Blackjacks’ defense rewarded the offensive players by pitching a shutout, leading Dawson-Boyd to a 43-0 win over the Wolverines.
Sather punched in the game’s first touchdown with a 13-yard run in the first quarter and hauled in a reception for a 22-yard touchdown to end the frame with a 14-0 lead. He also had an 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and six-yard run in the fourth.
Sather took 13 carries for 73 yards and caught two passes for 33 yards in the win. Aedyn Dahl also provided help in the backfield with four carries for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns, a 10-yard run in the second quarter and a seven-yard run in the third.
Gunner Liebl continued to build on his spectacular season as a dual-threat quarterback. He completed 11 of his 18 pass attempts for 119 yards and a touchdown, and kept the ball himself to pick up 52 rushing yards on seven carries.
Dawson-Boyd finished the game with five sacks and 10 tackles for loss, as well as a pair of fumble recoveries.
Elvis Bellefeuille hit a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter and converted four of his five extra-point attempts
Dawson-Boyd (5-1) travels to Cottonwood on Friday to take on Lakeview (4-2) at 7 p.m.
No. 6 Wabasso 52, Nicollet 8
WABASSO — Seven different players found the end zone for the Wabasso football team on Friday night, leading the No. 6 Rabbits to a 52-8 win over Nicollet.
Drew Kemp completed a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes, the first being a 31-yard completion to Jack Burns and the second being a 14-yard pass to Zach Skoblik. The pair of touchdowns gave the Rabbits a 20-0 lead after the first quarter, with Sam Zeug also scoring a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the frame.
Zeug was the lone rabbit with multiple scores in the game, running in an eight-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He ran the ball eight times for 48 yards in the game, while Paxton Huhnerkoch led the team with six carries for 61 yards and Brooke Baune contributed nine carries for 55 yards.
Nolan Leopold and Burns each came away with an interception for the Rabbits in the game, with Leopold also returning the second-half kickoff 70 yards to the house.
Baune and Huhnerkoch each ran in touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Nicollet earning its lone touchdown in between. Prior to the Nicollet touchdown, the Rabbits had scored 46 unanswered points to open the game.
Kemp completed 12 of his 14 passes for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns. On the receiving end, Leopold logged five catches for 60 yards while Burns brought in three receptions for 46 yards.
Olson had a pair of sacks for the Wabasso defense and tied Skoblik and Tyson Lightfoot with a team-high four solo tackles. Lightfoot’s nine total tackles were also second only to Mason Kampsen’s 10.
Wabasso (6-0) faces its biggest test of the regular season next week, traveling to Lamberton to take on No. 5 Red Rock Central (5-0) at 7 p.m. The battle of two undefeateds will mark the first time this season that either the Rabbits or the Falcons have faced a team with a winning record.
HLOF 42, WWG 19
WESTBROOK — Despite fighting in a close first half, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell to Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda behind a powerful second-half surge, 42-19, Friday night.
WWG and HLOF were locked up with one another through the first two quarters, but the Coyotes exploded for three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away.
Connor Jackels passed 16 complete passes on 27 attempts for 150 yards. Neil Kuehl led the Chargers with 50 rushing yards off 11 carries, while Drew Swanson had a team-high 87 receiving yards on seven catches with one touchdown.
WWG was strong on the defensive end, led by Owen Lor’s 11 tackles. Kuehl followed with another 10 tackles, while Tucker Krick finished the night eight eight.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (2-4) closes the season with a strong stretch of opponents, playing back-to-back games against undefeated teams. The Chargers will go on the road to take on No. 3 Edgerton (5-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. before closing out the regular season at home against No. 5 Red Rock Central (5-0) on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the same time.
