Marshall boys fall 3-2 to Worthington in 2AA quarterfinals

WORTHINGTON — Sabino Us’ pair of goals weren’t enough to get the No. 5 Marshall boys soccer team to a road win over No. 4 Worthington in the Section 2AA quarterfinals on Tuesday. Us scored a goal in each half, but the Tigers ultimately fell 3-2.

Us gave Marshall a spark early in the game, scoring less than eight minutes after the opening whistle blew. Yet, the Trojans rallied ahead and held on for the win.

Us’ second goal came in the 23rd minute of the second half. Marshall played Worthington close from there, but couldn’t get over the top. The Tigers had some good chances at the end to send the game to overtime, but a wide shot left the Tigers shy of the equalizer.

Jameson Cornell put together a quality start between the posts for Marshall, finishing the match with 16 saves in the loss.

As a team, Marshall finished with 10 shots in the match, including four from Isaiah Argueta and three from Us.

After graduating the vast majority of its starters from last season, the Tigers put together a solid campaign to finish the season at 9-8-1. The Tigers graduate seven seniors this year in Us, Argueta, Karsten Springborg, Sam Foster, Jonathan Rueda, Elian Rueda, and Lincoln DeGroot.

Starting at $3.95/week.
