Farris takes first, MCC boys place second at Adrian Invite
ADRIAN — Murray County Central/Fulda’s Laiken Farris picked up another first-place finish in the girls 5,000-meter cross country race at the Adrian/Ellsworth Dragon Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The MCC/F boy’s team also had a good race, finishing the meet with a second-place overall finish.
On the girl’s side, MCC/F placed fifth of seven teams with 116 points. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton followed in sixth with 144 points, and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove took seventh with 166.
Individually, Farris led the way with a time of 19:47.63 to take first, nine seconds ahead of Southwest Minnesota Christian Hannah Masselink’s runner-up finish.
Mara Clarke followed in eighth place with a time of 20:26.29, while RTR’s Summer Labrune took 13th after running a 21:25.90. TMB/WWG’s Miranda Mischke also had a top-15 finish of the 90 runners with a time of 21:30.80 for 15th.
On the boy’s side, MCC/F placed second out of eight teams with 46 points. TMB/WWG took fifth with 150 points, while RTR finished the day with 186 points for eighth.
Individually, MCC/F had a trio of top-5 runners in Matthew Stapek, Aiden Appel and Alexander Betz.
Stapek placed second after running a 16:54.77, with Appel following closely behind with a 17:01.50 for third. Betz came just second after for a fourth-place finish with a time of 17:06.16.
TMB/WWG’s Weston Marten placed 16th of the 91 runners with a 18:51.93.
MCC/F will next compete at the Red Rock Conference meet on Monday at the Fulda Golf Course, as will RTR.
TMB/WWG will return to the course on Tuesday when it competes at the Camden Conference meet at the Cottonwood Country Club.
