Canby/Minneota boys and LQPV/DB girls claim Camden championships
COTTONWOOD — The Canby/Minneota boys cross country team finished in first place to claim the Camden Conference title, as did the girls Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd girls team Tuesday afternoon at the Camden Conference Championship meet at the Cottonwood Country Club.
The Canby/Minneota boys teams finished with a meet-low 51 points, while LQPV/DB girls took first with 32 points. The Canby/Minneota girls team placed second with 42 points.
On the boy’s side, LQPV/DB placed third as a team, and Lakeview followed with a fifth-place finish. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove took seventh, and Yellow Medicine East finished in eighth.
Individually, Tate Reminger led all area runners with a third-place finish with a time of 17:24.67.
Tallen Merritt for Canby/Minneota followed behind with a 17:56.34 for fourth place.
Tanner Kalas and Collin Rosendahl ran for fifth and sixth place, respectively, finishing with times of 18:08.47 and 18:09.77.
Kendon Knutson and Brett Stoks also helped pace the boys team for Canby/Minneota finishing in seventh and 10th place, with times of 18:16.03 and 18:33.18.
LQPV/DB’s Landon Kemen, Canby/Minneota’s Seth Paluch and Lakeview’s Thane Matthys also had top-15 finishes as well, placing 11th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
There were 67 individual runners in the boy’s race.
On the girl’s side, there were only four schools that qualified for a team score, with Central Minnesota Christian and MACCRAY/Renville County West following LQPV/DB and Canby/Minneota in third and fourth place.
Individually, Mya Pesek for Canby/Minneota led the area in second place with a time of 20:19.04, as LQPV/DB’s Brynn and Chloe Gloege followed in third and fourth place, running a 20:41.22 and 20:51.60, respectively.
Canby/Minneota’s Taylor Ourada and Adri Christianson finished the day in sixth and 12th, with times of 21:18.63 and 21:54.78 each. Jonna Briggs also followed for 14th place, with a 22:29.97.
Laura Schreier ran a 21:30.38 for an eighth-place finish for LQPV/DB, and Sadie Rosendahl came in 11th with a 21:46.03.
Miranda Mischke led TMB/WWG on the day coming in ninth place after running a 21:35.09.
Shelby Reminger led the Lakeview girls team and also earned a top-15 finish, running a 22:35.14 to finish in 15th place.
Everyone will next return to the course and compete at the Section 3A Championships, slated to take place next Thursday at the Madison Country Club.
The race will include Canby/Minneota, Murray County Central/Fulda, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, LQPV/DB, Lakeview, TMB/WWG, Wabasso and Yellow Medicine East.
