Rolbiecki tallies 37 digs in No. 1 Minneota’s win over 3A ROCORI

MINNEOTA — Nothing got past Minneota libero Abby Rolbiecki on Tuesday night when the top-ranked Minneota volleyball team hosted Class 3A Rocori. The Viking senior tallied 37 digs in the game as the Vikings overcame a first-set loss to take down the Spartans 3-1.
Rocori claimed the night’s first game by a score of 25-22, but the Vikings locked in from there. After holding out in an extended second set for a 30-28 win, Minneota cruised to a 25-8 victory in game 3 before clinching the match with a 25-17 win.
In addition to Rolbiecki, Eden Meagher and Madison Minnehan contributed to the Vikings’ back-row defense with 17 and 11 digs, respectively. Meagher’s 18 kills were also a match-high, edging out 13 each from Jaylyn Coequyt and Sarah Gruenes.
In the defensive front row, Leah Coequyt altered plenty of Rocori shots and finished the night with seven blocks. Gruenes and Jaylyn Coequyt also chipped in three and two blocks.
Splitting setting duties, Libby Sussner and Sophie Gillund finished the night with 31 and 27 set assists, respectively. Sussner also tied Rolbiecki with a team-leading two service aces.
Minneota remains undefeated at 3-0 on the season and next competes at the Southwest Challenge in Marshall on Friday. The Vikings will kick off their run at the two-day event with a match against Class 4A Eastview at Red Baron Arena on Friday at 5 p.m.
No. 5 RTR 3, TMB 0
TYLER — Laken Baartman’s exceptional back-row effort helped the fifth-ranked Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team get back to .500 on the season when it picked up a straight-sets win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday. The Knights jumped out with a 25-8 win in the first game and held on for 25-17 and 25-13 wins in the next two to secure the victory.
Baartman finished with a match-high 19 digs on the day, while Sara Thooft and Brezlyn Buchert chipped in 11 and seven, respectively. Buchert also tallied 17 set assists to pace the team, just ahead of Dru Ellefson’s 15.
In addition to her contributions as a setter, Ellefson also made a defensive impact, accounting for two of the Knights’ six blocks.
Paisley Thooft led all RTR hitters with 11 kills while Sara Thooft and Ava Karbo finished with eight apiece.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton improves to 2-2 on the season with the win. The Knights will take on their third top-10 opponent in their first five games on Thursday, going on the road to take on the No. 6 Canby Lancers (2-0).
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton falls to 1-2 on the season and next competes at the Southwest Challenge in Marshall on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers will open the two-day tournament by taking on Class 4A No. 2 Lakeville North (3-0) at Red Baron Arena on Friday at 5 p.m.
CGB 3, DB 0
GRACEVILLE — A solid outing from its defensive back row wasn’t enough to get the Dawson-Boyd volleyball team its first win on Tuesday against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley. The Wolverines took down the Blackjacks in straight sets, 25-16, 25-10, 25-21.
Kate Gruwell led the Blackjack defensive effort with 14 digs while Kadyn Perkins and Kylar Hjelmeland contributed 11 and nine, respectively. Perkins also finished with five aces, followed by three apiece from Hjelmeland and Rylan Plessner.
Claire Stratmoen tallied six set assists for the Blackjacks while Emma Stotesbery finished with four.
Dawson-Boyd falls to 0-3 on the season and looks to turn its luck around when it hosts Murray County Central (1-1) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Windom 3, RRC 1
LAMBERTON — A second-set victory wasn’t enough to shift momentum in the Red Rock Central volleyball team’s favor on Tuesday night as the Knights suffered a 3-1 loss.
After falling 25-13 in the first game, the Falcons rallied for a 25-19 second-set victory. Yet, the Eagles responded with 25-14 and 25-21 victories in the ensuing sets to send RRC home with a loss.
The Falcons were strong defensively on the night. Kendra Schroeder, Amelia Ubl and Ally Linder finished the match with 18, 17 and 15 digs, respectively. In the front row, Paige Wondercheck and Shylin Hagert each tallied three blocks.
Hagert also contributed offensively with eight kills, trailing only Abby Evans’ 13. Evans also finished with two service aces, while Natasha Erickson added another along with 26 set assists.
Red Rock Central falls to 0-3 on the season and will look to pick up its first victory when it hosts Hills-Beaver Creek (3-0) for its third consecutive home match on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
MCC 3, Lakeview 1
SLAYTON — The Murray County Central volleyball team picked up its first win of the season 3-1 over Lakeview Tuesday night in sets of 23-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-22.
The Rebels and Lakers fought off one another throughout the entire night, with the Lakers taking the first set.
MCC responded by taking the second set, and prevailed in the third with extra points before finishing off the night in the fourth.
Ava Deacon was the game’s defensive leader with 36 digs for MCC, while her teammates Kate Blankenship, Suttyn Schryvers and Erynn Rohrer contributed 21, 20 and 19, respectively. Schryvers also tied Reese Gilbertson with a team-leading 12 kills.
For Lakeview, Kiara Hinz controlled the defensive end with a team-high 25 digs, along with Khya Gawarecki and Jersey Stensrud recording 10 each as well.
Gawarecki and Schwartz led Lakeview with 15 and 12 assists while Rohrer finished with 31 for MCC.
Lakeview was aggressive at the front of the net, with Allison Isaacs tallying six blocks, Kiara Hinz with five, and Taylor Hinz, Laia Javens and Avery Hinz all finishing with four blocks apiece.
On the offensive end, Taylor Hinz led the way with 17 kills. Kiara followed with six.
Kat Miller logged four blocks for MCC while Peyton DeGreef added another two.
MCC (1-1) will next look to stay in the win column when it travels to Dawson-Boyd (0-3) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Lakeview (0-3) will next have its home opener after starting the season with a three-game road trip, when it hosts Edgerton (0-1) on Thursday with a 7:15 p.m. first serve.
ACGC 3, YME 0
GRANITE FALLS — Ella Cheney had nine digs and Lexi Stengel led with 11 set assists, but the Yellow Medicine East volleyball team fell in three sets 3-0 to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Tuesday night, in scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13.
The loss marks four straight for the Sting, who remain looking for their first win of the season.
Senior Bayli Sneller finished the night with five digs, two kills and a pair of ace serves.
Alana Almich had a team-high five kills, while Abbey Bones and Bailey Mortenson followed with four each. All three also had one block. Hanna Bjorndal tallied two blocks.
Stengel also had a team-high three ace serves.
YME (0-4) will next travel to Cottonwood for a weekend tournament, and will face Edgerton (0-1) on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. with games to follow.
