Panthers tally 15 service aces in win over Blackjacks

DAWSON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Dawson-Boyd Thursday night in a Camden Conference matchup, breaking a two-game skid, behind a strong performance from the service line. The Panthers finished with 15 team aces, and defeated the Blackjacks in competitive sets of 25-20, 31-29 and 25-19.
Piper Freeburg led TMB with five aces, while Braelynn Kirk followed with another four. Allie Adams finished with a trio of aces, while Alli Dolan and Melaina Ankrum had two and one, respectively.
On the offensive end for the Panthers, Gretchen Lanoue led with eight kills, and Ankrum and Kirk tallied six apiece. Adams followed with five, while Elsie Knott had another four kills.
Ankrum also paced the offense, finishing with a team-high 15 assists with Dolan’s nine.
Dawson-Boyd stayed within reach and pressured TMB the entire night, including extending the second set.
In a well-balanced effort, Hattie Kemen finished with a team-high 14 digs, while Kylar Hjelmeland and Kadyn Perkins followed with 11 and eight digs.
Kadyn Perkins led the Blackjacks offensively with nine kills, and Claire Stratmoen and Stella Roth finished with four more each.
Emma Stotesbery and Stratmoen partnered with setting up the offense, dishing out 18 and 17 set assists, respectively.
Stotesbery also had a trio of service aces, and Perkins had another two.
TMB moves to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in Camden Conference play. The Panthers next have the tall task of taking on top-ranked Minneota (17-2) on Tuesday at home at 7 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd (1-14, 0-7) will next travel to Ortonville (4-10) on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. first serve.
No. 4 RTR 3, SWMC 0
EDGERTON — Laken Baartman racked up 21 digs for the No. 4 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team on Thursday night as the Knights swept Southwest Minnesota Christian in Red Rock Conference play, 25-18, 25-10, 25-11.
Dru Ellefson also made a major defensive impact for the Knights, tallying a pair of ace blocks and six digs in the match. She also spread the ball around effectively, with her 20 set assists trailing only Brezlyn Buchert’s 26.
Sara and Paisley Thooft led the RTR hitters in the match with 14 kills each. Brynn Borresen also got involved with eight kills, while Ellefson and Ava Karbo chipped in another six each.
At the service line, Buchert and Sara Thooft each contributed a pair of aces.
RTR improves to 16-5 (6-0 RRC) on the season and returns to Tyler to host Murray County Central (8-5, 4-2 RRC) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
No. 1 Minneota 3,
Ortonville 0
ORTONVILLE — The top-ranked Minneota volleyball team kept its perfect Camden Conference record alive with a sweep over Ortonville Thursday night behind Eden Meagher’s six service aces, picking up its 12th straight win, in dominant sets of 25-10, 25-6 and 25-12.
Jaylyn Coequyt led the way offensively with 10 kills, while Leah Coequyt and Meagher followed with five each. Sarah Gruenes had another four.
Several Vikings’ helped on the defensive end as well, led by Abby Rolbiecki’s nine digs. Madison Minnehan had a trio of digs, while Autum Anderson, Meagher and Libby Sussner all had two.
Along with Meagher’s six, Libby Sussner had another four service aces for Minneota. Rolbiecki also had one.
Sussner finished with a team-best 19 set assists, and Sophie Gillund followed with eight.
Minneota moves to 17-2 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.
The Vikings will stay on the road and face Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (6-12) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
No. 6 Canby 3, LQPV 0
MADISON — Karlie Wollum’s team-high 15 kills and 12 digs led the No. 6 Canby volleyball team to its second-straight sweep, defeating Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday night in sets on 25-9, 26-24 and 25-15.
The Lancers were hot from all areas of the court, finishing with a team-total of 47 kills, 10 aces, 49 digs and 45 set assists.
Following Wollum, Brynn Kockelman also had 10 kills and eight digs on the night along with her team-high 23 assists. Emily Nelson had 21 assists, seven digs and nine kills. Kockelman also led Canby with a trio of blocks.
From the service line, Grace Hansen led with three aces, while Wollum, Alexa Vernlund and Jaryn Houseman each had two aces.
Vernlund also had seven digs, and Houseman finished with nine.
Canby has now won two straight matches after coming off a three-game skid from the weekend’s Class A Showcase Tournament.
The Lancers (11-8, 4-2 CC) will look to keep moving in the right direction when they return home to host Renville County West (6-2, 4-1 CC) on Tuesday with a 7:15 p.m. first serve.
WWG 3, MLAC 0
MT. LAKE — Hadley Jenniges contributed 12 digs and 20 set assists in the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team’s Red Rock Conference match against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey on Thursday. The Chargers built off those contributions to win in straight sets, 25-13, 25-13, 25-11.
Leah VanDeWiele also contributed in the back row defensively with 10 digs, while Jenniges made a front-row contribution with two ace blocks.
Offensively, Carlie Ross led the way with 15 kills while Sydney Foster and Leah VanDeWiele added seven and five, respectively. Foster’s three service aces were also second only to Natasha Wahl’s four.
WWG improves to 13-5 (5-1 RRC) on the season with the win and hosts Red Rock Central (4-11, 3-3 RRC) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Wabasso 3, Lester Prairie 1
LESTER PRAIRIE — Although dropping the first set, the Wabasso volleyball team quickly turned things around and took the new three straight for a 3-1 win over Lester Prairie Thursday night on the road. The Rabbits won by sets of 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-7.
Alexa Remiger was strong from the service line with four aces on the night, while Carly Fenger and Kenley Guetter combined for 22 kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
Carlee Jenniges and Camryn Irlbeck also had eight kills each.
Wabasso was hot on the defensive end, particularly in blocking.
Fenger had seven blocks on the night, three solo, and Irlbeck had another six blocks, five assisted. Jenniges had six assisted blocks, while Guetter had another four, three assisted.
In the back row, Audrey Johnson finished with a team-high 13 digs while Remiger, Sara Carlson and Guetter all had 10 more digs each.
Carlson paced the offense throughout the night, finishing with 39 set assists.
Wabasso has now won three of its last four matches, and moves back to a winning record of 11-9 on the season, 3-3 in conference.
The Rabbits have a quick turn around and will host Redwood Valley (10-7) today at 1 p.m.
KMS 3, YME 0
KERKHOVEN — Abbey Bones and Alana Almich’s attacking efforts weren’t enough to put the Yellow Medicine East volleyball team on top in its Camden Conference matchup against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday. The Sting got significant contributions from its hitters but fell in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15.
Bones finished the night as the Sting’s leading hitter with 12 kills while Almich was right behind her with 11. Facilitating the effort, Lexi Stengel contributed 23 set assists and tied Bayli Sneller for second on the team with six digs.
Ella Cherveny led the Sting defensively with 11 digs while Sneller also served up a trio of aces.
Yellow Medicine East falls to 4-9 (3-3 CC) with the loss and will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, when they welcome Lakeview (7-7, 3-3 CC) into Granite Falls at 7:15 p.m.
HLOF 3, RRC 1
OKABENA — A first-game win wasn’t enough to shift momentum in the Red Rock Central volleyball team’s favor in its Thursday night Red Rock Conference match against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. The Coyotes responded with three consecutive set victories to take down the Falcons 16-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.
The Falcons had a strong defensive night, led by 16 digs from Amelia Ubl, 11 from Ally Linder and 10 from Natasha Erickson. Ubl also went 22 of 23 from the service line with five aces, while Natasha Erickson contributed 20 set assists and another eight.
Linder tied Abby Evans with a team-leading seven kills in the match.
Red Rock Central falls to 4-11 (3-3 RRC) and goes on the road to take on Westbrook-Walnut Grove (13-5, 5-1 RRC) in Westbrook on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
