Minneota stays perfect with dominant win over Canby

CANBY — Quarterback Tristen Sussner had a trio of touchdown passes along with 212 passing yards to pace the Minneota football team to a 69-0 win over Canby Friday night, continuing its win streak and perfect start to the season.
The Vikings built up a 43-0 lead by halftime, and continued to run the field without letting up off the gas.
Overall, Minneota had 513 total yards to the Lancers’ 142.
Sussner had nine complete passes on 13 attempts with two interceptions, along with his three touchdown passes.
Kellen Bradley, Gage and Easton Johnston all had two rushing touchdowns on the night as well, while Brock Fier had a pair of receiving touchdowns.
Canby quarterback Cody Stoll had 15 complete passes on 27 attempts for 124 yards with one interception. Stoll also led defensively with four tackles.
On the defensive end for the Vikings, Randy Sorensen had a team-high six tackles, while Bradley and Dalton Orvis followed with four more each.
Minneota had 36 total tackles throughout the game, not allowing Canby many chances to march down the field.
The Vikings out-rushed the Lancers 301 yards to 20.
Minneota (3-0) will stay on the road and next travel to Lakeview (2-1) next Friday at 7 p.m.
Canby (1-2) will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Yellow Medicine East (0-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.
No. 8 Wabasso 64, GHECT 12
WABASSO — Drew Kemp threw for 249 yards and four touchdowns without a sack or interception on Friday night as the No. 8 Wabasso football team romped Grenada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman 64-12.
Kemp completed seven of his eight attempts on the day, including a 54-yard pass to Nolan Leopold and a 64-yard pass to Joe Rohlik. Leopold finished the day with 90 yards and two touchdowns on a pair of catches while Rohlik had the one reception for a touchdown.
The Rabbits came out hot, with Kemp throwing the 64-yard touchdown to Rolhlik on the first drive. The next time the Rabbits got the ball back, Jack Burns returned the kick 85 yards to the house for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead, and also came away with an interception later in the quarter.
The Rabbits held a 14-6 lead when Burns made the pick, and Kemp took advantage with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Leopold for a 22-6 lead after the first. Kemp also found Burns for a 42-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.
Rohlik led Wabasso’s rushing attack with 10 carries for 59 yards. Leopold finished with two carries for 76 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Skoblik and Paxton Huhnerkoch each also scored, with Skoblik taking seven carries for 48 yards and Huhnerkoch taking eight carries for 37.
Tavyn Larson had a sack in the game while Chase Lensing and Mason Kampsen tallied 1.5 tackles for loss each. Kampsen’s seven total tackles were a team-high.
A 36-yard reception by Leopold and a three-yard run from Skoblik each resulted in Wabasso touchdowns at the end of the second quarter, giving Wabasso a 44-12 halftime lead.
Sam Zeug had a 56-yard pick 6 in the third quarter to get Wabasso back on the scoreboard and Huhnerkoch scored on a 1-yard run three minutes later for the game’s final points.
Wabasso finished the game with five interceptions as a team, including two from Leopold and one each from Zeug, Burns and Lensing.
Wabasso improves to 3-0 on the season and continues its strong start to 9-man football on Friday when it goes on the road to take on New Ulm Cathedral at 7 p.m.
MACCRAY 20, YME 0
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East football team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to MACCRAY 20-0 Friday night.
Despite the loss, MACCRAY’s 20 points was YME’s fewest allowed points of the season so far through the Stings’ first three games.
Liam Anderson threw four complete passes on 12 attempts for 49 yards, along with a pair of interceptions.
Overall, MACCRAY had 363 yards on the night to YME’s 134.
Drew Monson led the team with 55 rushing yards on 10 carries, while Jack Mensink followed with 41 yards on eight attempts.
Gavin Torvik had a team-high 41 receiving yards on three catches.
The Sting (0-3) will remain at home and will look to find the win column when they host Canby (1-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday.
