Marshall swim earns handful of first-place finishes in Montevideo
MONTEVIDEO — Finley Pelz, Alex Brown, Tatum Lewis, Autumn Deutz and Aaliyah Podratz each earned individual first-place finishes for the Marshall swim and dive team in its dual meet against Montevideo on Thursday.
Pelz’s win came in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 2:27.4, while Lewis placed third in the event at 2:40.22. Pelz also won the 100-yard butterfly at 1:08.03, just ahead of teammate Hailey Larsen at 1:09.46.
Lewis’ first-place finish came in the 100-yard backstroke, hitting the wall at 1:12.00. Her finish led a Marshall sweep of the event, with Leah Hybbert as the runner-up at 1:14.55 and Joleigh Kesteloot in third at 1:16.16.
Alex Brown and Kesteloot took the top two spots in the 500-yard freestyle, with Brown winning at 6:03.95 and Kesteloot taking second at 6:22.23.
Deutz was the 50-yard freestyle champ at 26.42 and the one-meter dive runner-up with a score of 181.95.
Podratz won the 100-yard breaststroke, taking first at 1:18.24 while Brown finished as the event runner-up at 1:21.08.
Grace Rokeh, Podratz, Pelz and Deutz competed together in the 200-yard freestyle relay, winning the event at 1:49.04. Larsen, Podratz, Brown and Rokeh also won the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:15.73.
Marshall will next compete on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, N.D. at 10 a.m.
