Marshall nabs 3 interceptions in 28-0 win vs. Rocori

COLD SPRING — Jayden Meister returned a touchdown 96 yards for a pick 6 while Levi Maeyaert came up with two total touchdowns for the Marshall football team in a dominant win over Rocori on both sides of the ball. The Tigers controlled the game throughout and came away with a 28-0 win.
Marshall finished with three total interceptions on the day, including one from lineman JR Vierstraete and another from Tyson Louwagie.
Running the ball continued to be the Tigers’ bread and butter, with five players racking up 15 or more rushing yards. Andrew Stelter and Milo Swenson each carried the ball 13 times, resulting in 42 yards and a touchdown for Stelter and 49 yards for Swenson, while Maeyaert logged eight carries for 36 yards and a touchdown.
As a passer, Maeyaert completed six of his 12 attempts for 100 yards and a touchdown. Cannon Craigmile came up with the touchdown reception, finishing his day with a pair of catches for 32 yards, while Noah Frazee had another pair of catches for 38 yards and Stelter grabbed one for 22 yards.
Marshall improves to 2-0 on the season and hosts Willmar (1-1) for its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
RTR 20, Sleepy Eye 6
SLEEPY EYE — Through two games, the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton football team has already matched its win total from last year. Coming off a 39-0 win over Yellow Medicine East last week, the Knights continued to look like a revitalized team on Friday as they took down Sleepy Eye United 20-6.
Tyson Burns led the Knights’ rushing offense with two rushing touchdowns while Gavin Schreurs completed another passing touchdown to Colten Thomsen.
RTR improves to 2-0 on the season and hosts Lakeview (2-0) for its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lakeview 52, LQPV 12
MADISON — Chance Kosel and Garrett Schafer combined for over 200 of the Lakeview football team’s 411 rushing yards on Friday as the Lakers pulled away from Lac qui Parle Valley in the second half for a 52-12 win, capped off by 38 unanswered points.
Lakeview held a narrow 14-12 lead when Braylon Breyfogle caught a two-yard touchdown pass just before halftime, with Kosel running in the conversion for a 22-12 lead. Kosel and Breyfogle put the game away in the third quarter with 48- and 59-yard touchdown runs, respectively, and Kosel added another 28-yard touchdown run in the fourth while Breyfogle punched it in from three yards out.
Kosel finished the day with 20 carries for 139 yards and three touchdowns, Breyfogle toted it eight times for 72 yards and a touchdown (along with each of the team’s five catches for 73 yards), while Schafer logged nine carried for 103 yards. Herrick also finished with three carries for 55 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run for the game’s first points.
Breyfogle also came away with an interception on defense while Dustin Schlenner, Tyson Anderson and Kosel each recovered a fumble as well.
Lakeview improves to 2-0 and will face another team that’s found new life this year next week, when they head to Tyler to take on the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights on Friday at 7 p.m.
Wabasso 22, Cedar Mountain 0
WABASSO — In their first year down in 9-player football, the Wabasso football team has looked every bit a juggernaut early on. The Rabbits finished last season with two wins, but have already matched that total through two games this year after claiming a 22-0 win over Cedar Mountain in Wabasso’s home opener on Friday.
Joe Rohlik’s rushing abilities were at the center of Wabasso’s success on Friday, carrying the ball 22 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Skoblik also scored a touchdown on the ground while rushing for 76 yards on 14 carries.
Mason Kampsen led the defense with nine total tackles and combined with Zeke Olson for a sack, while Rohlik had an interception and six total tackles.
Drew Kemp completed eight of his 11 pass attempts for 85 yards in the game, while Nolan Leopold hauled in three receptions for 39 yards on four targets.
Wabasso improves to 2-0 with the win and hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman on Friday at 7 p.m.
Canby 10, MACCRAY 6
CLARA CITY — The Canby football team never trailed in its defensive battle against MACCRAY on Friday. A second-quarter Jace Sigler touchdown run gave the Lancers an early lead and all the offense needed for the victory, as Canby went on to claim a 10-6 win.
MACCRAY answered Sigler’s six-yard touchdown with one of their own in the third, but the Lancers stopped the 2-point conversion to retain the lead. Baptiste Berthelen also converted a 24-yard field goal attempt for Canby in the third quarter to give the team some extra breathing room.
Cody Stoll was at the center of Canby’s offensive gameplan, completing 20 of his 33 pass attempts for 215 yards and an interception. Isaac Bollerudd caught six of those passes for 96 yards while Cash Antony added another 56 receiving yards on five catches.
Canby finished with 18 rushing yards as a team, 23 of which came from Sigler on seven carries.
Canby improves to 1-1 on the season and has the tall task of hosting Minneota (2-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 49, YME 0
DAWSON — Nathan Hansen was a versatile offensive weapon for the Dawson-Boyd football team in its Friday night matchup against Yellow Medicine East. He finished the day with three total touchdowns as the Blackjacks walked away with a 49-0 win over the Sting.
Hansen came up with his first touchdown of the day on a 55-yard punt return in the first quarter to make the score 21-0, and added one more touchdown in the frame on a four-yard run. He also scored the game’s last touchdown, a 36-yard run in the third quarter, and finished the day with 36 rushing yards on three attempts.
Kameron Sather finished as the Blackjacks’ leading rusher with 10 carries for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the game’s first touchdown and another in the second quarter.
Gunner Liebl completed nine of his 16 pass attempts for 139 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown to Jaxton Hastad, and ran the ball eight times for 59 yards and a 12-yard touchdown.
Hastad and Hansen led the Blackjacks’ receiving corps with three catches for 52 yards and two for 51, respectively.
Hansen led the defense with an interception and a fumble recovery while Holland Schacherer and Hastad each had a tackle for loss.
Dawson-Boyd improves to 2-0 and heads to Madison for its next game against Lac qui Parle Valley (0-2), while YME falls to 0-2 and hosts MACCRAY (0-2) for its next game. Both matchups will be held on Friday at 7 p.m.
USC 34, TMB 0
WELLS — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team had no answer for United South Central on Friday, falling 34-0 for its first loss of the season.
Griffin Zick and Aiden Sanow each had an interception on defense, while Sanow logged a team-high 12 tackles followed by Nolan Verlinde’s eight. Ty Yackley also contributed a sack.
Sanow completed seven of his 13 attempts as a passer for 24 yards, while Jackson Kruse led the ground game with nine carries for 25 yards.
TMB falls to 1-1 on the season and hosts three-time reigning state runner-up Springfield (2-0) for its next game on Friday at 7 p.m.
