Larsen, Pelz, Deutz lead Marshall swim to dominant win at Willmar
WILLMAR — The Marshall girls swim and dive team picked up a dominant win in a Tuesday night dual, defeating Willmar 123-53 behind a pair of individual first-place finishes each from Hailey Larsen, Autumn Deutz and Finley Penz.
Hailey Larsen won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.13 and the 500-yard freestyle in 6:03.41. The Tigers also took second in both events, with Grace Rokeh finishing as the runner-up in the former at 2:15.40 and Alex Brown in the latter at 6:07.38.
Pelz won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:26.41 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.88. The Tigers also had Leah Hybbert finish as the 100-fly runner-up at 1:13.69 and Tatum Lewis reach the podium on the medley at 2:45.19 for third place.
Deutz won the one-meter dive with 173.5 points, and also eked out a win by a half-second in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.09.
Pelz and Deutz were the first and last legs of Marshall’s 200-yard freestyle relay win, with Aaliyah Podratz and Grace Rokeh also getting Marshall a winning time of 1:51.34. Lewis was also the lead leg of a relay team of Podratz, Pelz and Deutz in the 200-yard medley, with marshall getting a winning time of 2:04.39.
Rokeh earned an individual first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:01.52. The Tigers swept the event, with Emery Podratz and Mauren Brusven rounding out the top 3 at 1:04.50 and 1:06.22.
Aaliyah Podratz and Alex Brown took the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:17.39 and 1:21.77.
Larsen, Hybbert, Brown and Rokeh won the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:18.50.
Marshall next competes on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Montevideo at 6 p.m.
