Laiken Farris takes 1st at Turkey Trot Invite

PRAIRIE VIEW — Murray County Central/Fulda’s Laiken Farris finished first overall of 67 individual racers at the cross country Turkey Trot Invite in Prairie View Thursday afternoon.

The MCC/Fulda girls team finished fourth out of seven teams with 96 points, and the boys team took third out of eight teams with 75 points.

On the girls side, Farris led the way with a finishing time of 19:48.93, nearly 20 seconds ahead of Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s Hannah Masselink second-place finish.

Mara Clarke also had a successful race, coming in fourth place with a time of 20:54.23 for MCC/Fulda.

For the boys, Sioux Falls Lincoln took first place as a team with a meet-low 46 points. Windom took second with 51, as MCC/Fulda followed for third.

Individually, Aiden Appel led MCC/Fulda with a seventh-place finish out of 81 runners with a time of 17:14.28.

Alexander Betz and Matthew Stapek placed 11th and 14th place, respectively. Betz ran a 17:44.89, and Stapek finished with a 18:06.78.

The MCC/Fulda cross country team will have about a month off from competition before it wraps up the regular season at the Adrian/Ellsworth Dragon Invite on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Adrian football field. The girls are slated to race at 4:30 p.m., with the boys to follow at 5:05 p.m.
