Kirk, Ankrum’s well-rounded effort leads TMB past LQPV

MADISON — Braelynn Kirk and Melaina Ankrum combined for 20 kills and 25 digs to help lead the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team to a 3-0 victory in straight sets over Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing skid.
The Panthers prevailed in each competitive set by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16.
Ankrum and Kirk shared a team-high 10 kills, while Allie Adams followed with another eight.
Piper Freeburg led TMB with 18 digs, while Ankrum also tallied 12 and Kirk had 13.
Allie Dolan and Ankrum paced the offense with 14 and 13 set assists, respectively.
The win gives TMB its third of the season, who picked up its other two in the Panther’s season opener over Red Rock Central and defeated Medford last Saturday.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (3-7) next has the tall task of taking on undefeated No. 9 MACCRAY (6-0) in Tracy on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
No. 1 Minneota 3, DB 0
DAWSON — Aggressive service was the name of the game for the top-ranked Minneota volleyball team when it went on the road to take on Dawson-Boyd for a Camden Conference matchup on Thursday. The Vikings finished the night with 13 service aces as they swept the Blackjacks 25-7, 25-7, 25-6.
Autumn Anderson and Libby Sussner led the Vikings’ effort from the service line with five and four aces, respectively. Anderson also tied libero Abby Rolbiecki with a team-high five digs while Sussner’s seven set assists were second only to Sophie Gillund’s 19.
Eden Meagher totaled 11 kills for Minneota, followed by six from Leah Coequyt. Meagher also tied Sarah Gruenes and Jaylyn Coequyt with a match-high two ace blocks.
Kadyn Perkins and Hattie Kemen led Dawson-Boyd’s back row with seven and eight digs, respectively. Perkins’ three kills were also second on the Blackjacks behind only Kylar Hjelmeland’s four, while Claire Stratmoen contributed six set assists.
Minneota (8-2) returns to its home court to host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (3-4) for its next match on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd (0-7) travels to Cottonwood for a battle against the Lakeview Lakers (5-4) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
No. 3 RTR 3, A/E 0
ADRIAN — There wasn’t a spot on the floor that Laken Baartman couldn’t cover for the No. 3 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team on Thursday night. The junior Knight tallied 17 set assists in RTR’s sweep of Red Rock Conference foe Adrian/Ellsworth, helping the Knights claim set victories of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.
Paisley Thooft led the Knights’ front row with 11 kills in the match, followed by nine from Brynn Borresen and another eight each from Sara Thooft and Ava Karbo.
Dru Ellefson and Brezlyn Buchert facilitated the Knights’ adept attack with 19 set assists for Ellefson and 16 for Buchert. The two setters also tied Paisley Thooft for third on the team with six digs, trailing Baartman’s 17 and Sara Thooft’s eight.
Ellefson and Sara Thooft each served up a pair of aces while Buchert, Karbo, Borresen and Thooft recorded an ace block in the match as well.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (8-4) gets back to Tyler on Tuesday when it hosts a Westbrook-Walnut Grove (8-1) team that enters the match on a six-match win streak. First serve is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
No. 6 Canby 3, Ortonville 0
ORTONVILLE — Emily Nelson continued her terrific season from the service line with seven aces on Thursday night as the No. 6 Canby volleyball team picked up a 3-0 Camden Conference win over Ortonville, 25-12, 25-17, 25-10.
Karlie Wollum also got in on the Lancers’ service-line success with three aces on the day, and her 11 kills were second only to Grace Hansen’s 12. Nelson and Brynn Kockelman each added another seven as well.
Nelson and Kockelman facilitated the Canby attack with 22 set assists for Nelson and 15 for Kockelman. Kockelman’s nine digs also tied Wollum for second on the team to libero Jaryn Houseman’s 11, while Nelson chipped in another eight dits.
Canby (5-4) hosts Central Minnesota Christian (5-3) for its next match on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
WWG 3, HLOF 0
FULDA — Carlie Ross got it done for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team in both rows on Thursday. The senior outside hitter set team-highs in kills and digs as the Chargers defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in straight sets in Red Rock Conference play, 25-13, 25-14, 25-19.
Ross finished the match with 17 digs and 12 kills. Leah Carter and Natasha Wahl also offered offensive support with eight kills each, while Sydney Foster and Hadley Jenniges backed up the back row with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Jenniges dished out 31 set assists in the match while Wahl and Sage Bents each served up a pair of aces, with Wahl doing so on perfect 17 of 17 serving.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (8-1) will prepare to take on some top-tier competition on Tuesday, when it heads to Tyler for a matchup against No. 3 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (8-4) at 7:15 p.m.
Wabasso 3, GFW 0
WABASSO — Sara Carlson’s 30 set assists helped the Wabasso volleyball team end its three-match skid on Thursday with a straight-sets Tomahawk League win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, 25-13, 25-19, 25-6.
On the finishing end of Carlson’s assists, Carly Fenger led the way with 10 kills, followed by eight from Camryn Irlbeck and six from Leah Mathiowetz. Mathiowetz also tied Kenley Guetter with three service aces while Carlson and Audrey Johnson each added another pair.
Johnson was the Rabbits’ defensive leader in the match. The Wabasso libero recorded 10 digs while Mathiowetz and Brita Brand finished with eight and six.
Carlson logged three block assists while Guetter and Mathiowetz each logged an ace block.
Wabasso (3-3) hosts a home tournament on Saturday. The Rabbits will take on Redwood Valley (2-2) at 9 a.m., Southwest Minnesota Christian (3-5) at 10:45 a.m. and No. 9 MACCRAY (5-0) at 1 p.m.

PRINSBURG — Kiara and Taylor Hinz’s well-rounded efforts shined despite the loss for the Lakeview volleyball team on Thursday night. The duo finished near the top of the team in digs and kills, but the Lakers still fell 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 to Central Minnesota Christian in Camden Conference play.
Kiara Hinz led the team’s back row with 12 digs while Taylor’s nine trailed only Kiara and Jersey Stensrud’s 10. As hitters, the two tied Laia Javens with seven kills.
Khya Gawarecki and Nicole Schwartz finished with 10 and seven set assists, respectively, in the match while Javens and Kiara Hinz each came up with an ace block.
Lakeview (5-5) goes home to Cottonwood on Tuesday 7:15 p.m. to host a Dawson-Boyd (0-7) team in search of its first win.
No. 9 MACCRAY 3, YME 0
CLARA CITY — Despite a third-set rally, the Yellow Medicine East volleyball team fell to an undefeated ninth-ranked MACCRAY squad 3-0 on the road Thursday evening.
The Sting came up short in the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-9, yet put together a strong fight in the third to try and force extra sets. But, the Wolverines came together to finish off the night in a sweep with a 25-20 win in game 3.
Lexi Stengel led YME with 16 set assists on the night, while Ella Chervney had a team-high 10 digs. Everra Leenerts and Kourtney Peterson followed with nine digs and six digs, respectively.
On the offensive side, Abbey Bones and Alana Almich each led with four kills each, and Bailey Mortenson had another three.
Yellow Medicine East (2-7) next returns to Granite Falls on Tuesday to battle with Ortonville (2-2) at 7:15 p.m.
SWMC 3, RRC 0
EDGERTON — Amelia Ubl’s 11 digs still left Red Rock Central shy of its second consecutive victory on Thursday as the Falcons fell in straight sets to Southwest Minnesota Christian in a Red Rock Conference volleyball match on Thursday, 25-14, 25-16, 25-12.
Abby Evans finished the night with six kills, and Evans and Ubl each served up an ace. Natasha Erickson tallied 13 set assists in the match.
Red Rock Central (1-4) plays in a tournament at Jackson County Central on Saturday. The Falcons are slated to take on Martin County West (3-3) at 10:15 a.m. and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (4-4) at 11:30 a.m.
MCC 3, MLAC 0
SLAYTON — The Murray County Central volleyball team swept Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey 25-16, 25-19, 25-17. Stats were not available at the time of print. MCC next competes at the JCC tournament on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.
