Deutz finishes 1st for Tigers at Lucky Lindy Invitational

LITTLE FALLS — Sam Deutz’s individual first-place finish aided the Marshall boys cross country team to a fourth-place finish out of 18 teams at the Lucky Lindy Invitational at Little Falls Golf Course on Thursday.

Deutz crossed the finish line at 15:43.7, six seconds ahead of runner-up Connor Malecka of Detroit Lakes and nearly 30 seconds ahead of third-place Brody Freeland of Perham.

The Marshall boys put together a team score of 155, putting them between Minnehaha at 135 and Pequot Lakes at 164. Perham and Becker won the meet with 41 and 106 points, respectively.

Aidan Schuerman was the second Tiger to cross the finish line, claiming 30th place at 17:43.8 to beat out Pequot Lakes’ James Johnson by two-tenths of a second.

Noland Munson and Charles Mueller-Thompson finished in quick succession at 17:52.3 and 18:01.0. Munson’s time was good for 37th place in the field of 119, while Mueller-Thompson’s time was good for 41st.

Mykel Paulsen rounded out Marshall’s scoring members in 46th place at 18:13.7.

Isaac and Corbin Leibfried also ran, placing 58th and 69th at 18:47.7 and 19:15.5.

The Marshall cross country team will next compete at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstadt Golf Course, on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
