Marshall tennis earns pair of wins in quad

MANKATO — The Marshall tennis team earned a pair of wins on Friday in Mankato with Brooklyn Mauch, Kathryn Coudron, Corda Medina and Kyra Bailey all picking up a win in singles. The Tigers defeated Mankato West 5-2 and edged out United South Central for a 4-3 victory, and fell to Mankato East 7-0.

The Tigers faced off against Mankato West to start the day, with Mauch beating out Monir McCabe in two sets of 6-2 and 6-4 in singles. Coudron followed that up with a win of her own, also in two sets of 6-2 and 6-4.

Marshall won all three of its doubles matchups.

Emry Weller and Jazilyn Stienburg-Jones won in two sets of 6-0 each, while partners Emry Jans and Julia Pafko had a come-from-behind victory in their match. The two fell in the first set 6-4, but won the next two 6-1 and 6-0 to earn the win.

Peyton and Eme DeMuth were also victorious in their doubles, winning in three sets of 6-2, 4-6 and 6-4.

Mankato East came out firing on all cylinders in Marshall’s second game of the day, winning all of its singles and doubles matches in two sets.

Yet, the Tigers responded in their third and final match of the day against United South Central, with Coudron, Bailey and Medina winning in singles.

Coudron won in two sets of 6-3 and 6-0, her second individual win on the day, as did Medina in sets of 6-0 and 6-1.

Bailey battled it out for three sets, winning the first and third 7-5 and 10-4. She dropped the middle set 6-4.

The DeMuth sisters again came away with a win in doubles, ending the day in two sets of 6-3 and 6-1.

The two wins move Marshall to a 3-6 overall record and 1-1 in conference. The Tigers will next return to the court on Tuesday on the road at St. Peter at 4:30 p.m.
