Maeyaert’s pitching not enough for Irish in loss to Worthington
WORTHINGTON — A stellar pitching performance from Tyler Maeyaert wasn’t enough to get the Milroy Irish a Gopher League win over Worthington on Wednesday. Maeyaert limited the Cubs to two hits and four walks over five innings on the mound, but a lack of run support left Milroy with a 2-0 loss.
Both of Worthington’s runs came in the third inning. McKinley Bush singled before scoring on a Tucker Brander double, and Brander scored after back-to-back walks and a hit batter forced him in. From there, Maeyaert struck out three batters to get out of the inning without further damage.
Maeyaert finished his outing with 10 strikeouts. In relief, Craig Lasley threw three shutout innings, limiting Worthington to a walk and no hits while striking out a pair of batters.
Andrew Wallen singled twice for the Irish while Derek Smith doubled and Tyler Patterson singled.
Milroy falls to 9-8 on the season with the loss and hosts Fox Lake for its next game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
