Moline’s 3-run inside-the-park HR highlights Marshall Orange’s 15-2 win over Pipestone

PIPESTONE — The Marshall VFW Orange 15U team cruised to a 15-2 mercy-rule win over Pipestone on the road Monday night, sparked by a three-run inside the park home run from Charlie Moline in the first inning.

Marshall supported its early 3-0 lead with another five runs in the second and seven more in the third inning to gain quick control and put the game out of reach for Pipestone.

Moline’s homer to start the game was hit on a fly ball to left field, scoring both Jack Bly and Bennett Graven.

Bly initially got on base with an infield single, while Graven was walked.

Gavin Williams went 3 for 3 at the plate and shared a team-high trio of RBIs alongside Moline, who went 2 for 3 at bat, as did Bly.

Carson Mensink also had two hits on the day.

Marshall collectively had 10 hits and one error, and limited Pipestone to just three hits with five errors, who scored its two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Carter Phillippe spent all five innings on the mound, and tossed four strikeouts while allowing six walks and one earned run.

Hits from Mensink, Bly, Moline, Williams and Brendan Price were responsible for Marshall’s second-inning five runs.

Williams’ had a two-run RBI single in the midst of the Tigers’ third-inning rally, scoring Bly and Graven from third and second base.

Marshall’s final run of the game came from Sam Regnier off a Mensink infield single, who first got on base with a ground ball and was safe off an error.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Marshall, all of which came over the weekend during a 16U tournament.

Marshall moves to 5-6 on the season and will look to keep the momentum going when it next hosts Minneota at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
