SMSU’s Lampert, Chmielewski, Gardow named to All-NSIC team
BURNSVILLE — Three Southwest Minnesota State University baseball players earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason honors announced Tuesday afternoon.
SMSU junior outfielder Levi Lampert was named All-NSIC first team with senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Chmielewski earning All-NSIC second team accolades. Senior catcher Caleb Gardow was also honored as he was named to the NSIC All-Defensive team.
The conference head coaches selected the all-conference teams and specialty awards.
Lampert, a native of Upsala, Minn., started all 47 games while batting .339, and ranked first on the team in numerous offensive categories. He reached base in all 47 games, while ranking first in doubles (14), home runs (11), total bases (104), slugging pct. (.619), runs (54), walks (32), hit by pitches (15), multi-RBI games (10) and on-base pct. (.479). He ranked second in base hits (57) and stolen bases (11).
In NSIC games only, he ranked third in the league in hit by pitches (13), third in runs (46), fourth in walks (27), seventh in on-base pct. (.481) and ninth in home runs (9).
Chmielewksi, a native of Foley, Minn., led SMSU with five victories, while pitching a team-high 57 1/3 innings in 10 starts with three complete games. He finished with a 4.40 ERA, led the team with 53 strikeouts, while opponents batted just .233. He pitched six or more innings in six starts, while allowing two earned runs or less those six starts. He also did not allow an earned run in four starts totaling 29 1/3 innings.
In league games, Chmielewski ranked seventh in the NSIC in opposing batting average (.249) and 10th in innings pitched (49 1/3).
In the SMSU record book, Chmielewski closed his career ranking second in game started (42), third in innings pitched (232 1/3) and third in strikeouts (219).
Gardow, a native of Chippewa Falls, Wis., played in 39 games with 38 starts. He did not commit an error while recording 213 putouts and 34 assists. He threw out 11 runners attempting to steal on the season, including eight in NSIC play, ranking third in the conference. Gardow ends his career ranking sixth in team history in chances (892) and sixth in putouts (775), which both rank first all-time among catchers.
SMSU finished the season 23-24 overall and placed ninth in the NSIC standings with an 18-22 record.
