Schreurs’ 2-run homer highlights Knights’ win over HLOF

HERON LAKE — Gavin Schreurs hit a two-run homer and went 3 for 4 at the plate along with a team-high three RBIs to lead the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team to a 14-0 shutout win in six innings Friday night on the road.
RTR pitched a near no-hitter between Kolby Louwagie and Garrett Elton. The Coyotes finished with one hit and three errors, while the Knights recorded 13 hits and no errors.
Louwagie pitched for five innings with six strikeouts and eight walks, before Elton relieved the final inning, throwing three straight strikeouts.
Schreurs hit an inside-the-park homer on a fly ball out to right field in the fifth inning, also scoring Sean Griesse from second base, who initially got to first off a dropped-three strike.
Griesse also had a team-high three runs.
Along with Schreurs, Louwagie also had three hits and two RBIs on the night and Tyler Wichmann had a successful night going 3 for 3 at bat with two RBIs.
Brayden Chandler and Louwagie both had doubles as well.
RTR put the game into mercy rule territory after a five-run fourth inning for a 7-0 lead, and the Knights didn’t slow down from there with another two in the fifth, and ended the night with another five in the sixth.
RTR (14-5) has a fast turnaround and will return to the diamond today away at Lakeview (0-9) at 1 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 10, A/E 0 (5 inn.)
DAWSON — Kameron Sather’s hitting stride helped the Dawson-Boyd baseball team earn a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Adrian/Ellsworth Friday night. Sather went 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs and a triple on the night.
The Blackjacks scored four runs in the first inning to set the tone for the night, and scored in each of the five frames except the fourth. They finished the game off with a trio of runs in the fifth inning.
Along with Sather, Colten Bothun had two RBIs off his one hit, which was a double.
Bothun spent the night on the mound, and threw six strikeouts with one walk and three hits.
Dawson-Boyd recorded eight hits and one error, while A/E had three hits.
Sather’s triple was the final hit of the night with a fly ball to right field, allowing both Collin Olson and Ashton Swendra from third and second base to score and end the game. The two originally got on base with a single to right field and bunt, respectively.
Sather and Olson led Dawson-Boyd with two runs each.
Dawson-Boyd (10-2) will next look to keep the momentum going for a 10th straight win when it hosts Ortonville on Monday with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
PREP SOFTBALL
GAME 1
Lester Prairie 3, Wabasso 2
WABASSO — The Wabasso softball team held a lead the entire game up until Lester Prairie scored three unanswered runs in the top of the sixth inning, handing the Rabbits a 3-2 loss in the first of a doubleheader Friday evening.
Wabasso scored a run in the first and fifth inning for a 2-0 edge, but the Bulldogs scored three straight with two outs off a single base hit to score a runner from third, followed up with a two-run homer over left field for the lead.
Audrey Johnson accounted for both of Wabasso’s runs, with the first coming in the first inning after initially being walked, and getting home off a Macy Rohlik sacrifice RBI. Her fifth inning run was a result of a single line drive to right field, and charging home on off a Sara Carlson RBI sacrifice fly ball to center field.
Aylah Jenniges pitched all seven innings. She finished with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Rabbits finished with four hits and no errors, to Lester Prairie’s seven hits and three errors.
GAME 2
Wabasso 11, Lester Prairie 7
WABASSO — The Wabasso softball team got its revenge in an 11-7 win over Lester Prairie in the second game of a doubleheader Friday evening, behind three hits and three RBIs from Delaina Eis.
The bats came alive for the Rabbits with a quick four runs in the first inning, and finished the game with 11 hits and four errors. Lester Prairie was limited to five hits with three errors.
Wabasso was down by a pair of runs, 7-5, after the Bulldogs rallied for a five-run fifth inning. The two went scoreless over the sixth, until the Rabbits took all control for a six-run seventh inning, and managed to keep Lester Prairie from scoring in its final at-bat.
Eis and Peyton Jenniges brought in two runs of the six in the final inning off a single infield fly ball, scoring both Ava Kodet and Camryn Irlbeck from third and second base. Jenniges followed that up with her double, also scoring another two runs.
Along with Eis, Jenniges had two hits with another trio of RBIs, and Macy Rohlik recorded two hits and two RBIs.
Rohlik also had Wabasso’s largest hit of the game with a triple, coming promptly in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs.
Jenniges and Eis also each hit a double.
Aylah Jenniges threw for the first five innings with two strikeouts, no walks and six earned runs. Eis came in as relief the final two innings, pitching two strikeouts and one walk.
Wabasso (10-4) will next travel to take on Jackson County Central on Thursday at 7 p.m.
