Marshall wrestling earns five Academic All-State nods
The Guillotine announced its Academic All-State wrestling team on Wednesday, with three teams of 30 athletes and 57 honorable mentions on the boys side, and two teams of 15 with eight honorable mentions on the girls side.
Marshall’s Lincoln Christenson and Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United’s Ben Gunlogson each made the first team. Christenson, a junior, won the Class AA 114-pound championship this season as an individual after finishing as the 107 runner-up a year prior, all while maintaining a 3.36 GPA.
Gunlogson placed fourth as an individual in the 139AA championship while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
The Marshall boys wrestling team also earned five honorable mentions, with Drew Chandler, Josh Kraft, Tyson Louwagie, Aidan Mattison and Gavin Schaefer each getting the nod.
On the girls side, Marshall also had a second-team selection in Hannah Ratajczak, who placed fourth in the girls 142 individual championship and posted a 3.53 GPA.
Minneota’s Eli Gruenes was selected to the boys second team after recording a fifth-place finish at the Class A 189 championship with a 3.87 GPA while teammate Ryan Meagher was an honorable mention.
United also had Eli Olson and Kameron Sather selected as boys honorable mentions while Wabasso had Camryn Irlbeck and Macy Rohlik as girls honorable mentions.
