Marshall track wins Big South Conference title

ST. PETER — The Marshall track and field team had a strong showing at the Big South Conference Championship on Thursday, with the boys team winning the conference and the girls finishing third. Several Tigers earned first place finishes to power the teams through. 

The boys team took first out of the eight teams with 152.5 points, and the girls finished with 107, behind Tri-City United’s 133.5 and St. Peter’s 165 for first place. 

Alex Franson, Josh Leibfried, Samuel Deutz and Aidan Scheurman all earned individual first place finishes, while Keagan Anderson, Leibfried, Aidan Scheurman and Franson had the fastest time in the team 4×400 relay race. 

On the girls side, Brooklyn Purrington and Autumn Deutz led with first place in the high jump and pole vault events respectively, along with the Tigers earning two first-place finishes in the 4×100 and 4×800 races. 

Marshall will next compete in the Section 2AA Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
