MARSHALL — Wind speeds of over 40 miles per hour gusting across the Marshall softball complex carried the ball deep during the Marshall softball team’s home finale on Thursday, a doubleheader against Luverne and New Ulm. The Tigers fell behind early in both games and never recovered, losing 22-4 in five innings to Luverne and 19-1 in four innings to New Ulm.

Sara Dallman led the Tigers at the plate with three hits, including a double and an RBI, over the course of the two games. Justine Kirst also had a double, a walk and an RBI on the day while Naya Grahn drew two walks and hit a single.

The game was the final home game as members of the Marshall softball team for seniors Grahn and Kirst.

Marshall falls to 0-19 with the losses and will try to end the season on a positive note when it goes on the road to take on Jordan (7-10) today at 4:30 p.m.

Luverne got ahead early, with a two-run home run increasing their lead to 5-0 before Marshall got an out. The Cardinals led 11-0 after the end of the first and never looked back.

Marshall got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the second. Bailynn Parsons walked before eventually scoring on a passed ball, and Sara Dallman singled before walks to Aubrey Schaefer and Justine Kirst and Haley Kirchner getting hit by a pitch loaded the bases with two outs. Taylor Frana then reached base on an error to get the deficit to 11-2.
