TMB 11, Ortonville 1 (5 inn.)
TRACY — Early offensive production at the plate and an ability to capitalize on opponent miscues helped the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team pull ahed early in its Camden Conference matchup against Ortonville on Thursday. The Panthers scored five first-inning runs and never looked back, claiming an 11-1 victory in five innings.
Connor Lanoue’s pitching kept the Trojans at bay. He threw all five innings for the Panthers, striking out seven batters while limiting Ortonville to one earned run on one hit and a pair of walks.
TMB first took the lead in the bottom of the first. Taylor Squires and Lanoue hit consecutive singles before Trevor Smith singled in Squires for the game’s first run. Another single from Noah Knakmuhs loaded the bases and Griffin Zick hit a three-run triple before scoring on a Jackson Kruse single with two outs.
Knakmuhs led the Panthers with three hits on the day while Lanoue and Kruse each added another two. Zick and David Schuh also led the team with three RBIs for Zick and two for Schuh.
Trailing by 11 runs, Ortonville scored its first run of the day on an RBI single with two outs in the top of the fifth, but a fly out allowed TMB to maintain the mercy-rule win.
TMB put a pair of runners on in the bottom of the fourth when Knakmuhs singled and Zick reached on an error. Schuh drove in both with a double before scoring when Brody Hauger reached on an error, and a catcher’s interference call with the bases loaded allowed Hauger to score before a line out ended the frame.
A Noah Knakmuhs single and Zick reaching on an error scored Lanoue and Zick in the bottom of the second for a 7-0 TMB advantage.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 8-6 on the season and next hosts Canby (3-6) today at 4:30 p.m.
