Prep baseball roundup May 13, 2025

GRANITE FALLS — The Canby baseball team continued to find its late-game magic in its Camden Conference game against Yellow Medicine East on Tuesday. Coming off consecutive last-inning wins over Lakeview and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, the Lancers overcame a late deficit with three sixth-inning runs to hand the Sting its second conference loss of the season, 4-3.

Canby trailed 2-1 heading into the sixth when Jace Sigler singled and Jace Rangaard walked to put the go-ahead run on first. YME struck out each of the next two batters, but Dyllon Christianson reached on an error to load the bases and Cody Stoll hit a clutch single to score one runner, and a YME error on the play allowed a second to score. A wild pitch then scored another Lancer run for a 4-2 lead.

Braden Nelson brought YME back within a run when he singled before eventually scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame. A Gunnar Fagen single and an Eric Jimenez walk eventually put runners on first and second, but a double play and a pop out got Canby out of the jam and they retired three of the four batters in the seventh to seal the win.

Rangaard pitched all seven innings for Canby to earn the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts.

For the Sting, Eric Jimenez gave up one earned and three unearned runs on five hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. He also struck out 10 batters. Nelson also pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings of relief with one hit and one walk.

Stoll was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and, with two outs, scored on a Cash Antony single to give the Lancers their first run.

YME scored each of the game’s first two runs when Fagen doubled in Nelson in the first and Nelson doubled in Hayden Kuehn in the third.

Canby got six hits from six different batters in the game, with Rangaard reaching base three times on a single and two walks. Nelson and Fagen each accounted for two of YME’s seven hits, with Nelson also drawing a walk.

Canby improves to 5-6 on the season and carries a three-game win streak into its matchup against MACCRAY (7-7) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

YME falls to 8-5 with the loss and will look to bounce back when it hosts Central Minnesota Christian (4-6) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

DB 4, MACCRAY 3 (8 inn.)

DAWSON — After a furious seventh-inning rally to force extras, Nathan Hansen came up with a walk-off single for the Dawson-Boyd baseball on Tuesday to give the Blackjacks a 4-3 Camden Conference win over MACCRAY in eight innings.

Holland Schacherer singled and Eli Olson walked to start the bottom of the eighth before MACCRAY retired consecutive Dawson-Boyd batters. Tygan Long was intentionally walked to make all bases a force out, but Hansen punched a single over to short to score Schacherer and end the game.

The Blackjacks trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh before their hitters found their rhythm. Like the eighth, the seventh inning also started with Schacherer and Olson reaching base, this time each on a single.

With one out, Colten Bothun reached base on an error to score Schacherer for the Blackjacks’ first run. A walk to Long loaded the bases and Hansen came up with a two-run single to tie the game before consecutive strikeouts ended regulation.

Hansen pitched five innings in his start on the mound for Dawson-Boyd, giving up one earned and two unearned runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Long held down the fort in relief with three scoreless innings, striking out four batters while allowing a hit and two walks.

Hansen and Schacherer led the Blackjack hitters with two hits each, including three RBIs for Hansen, while Long walked twice.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 12-2 on the year with the win and rides an 11-game win streak into its home matchup against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (4-12) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
