Kluis’ HR, 2B lead Hadley at plate in win over Lakefield

Hadley 15, Lakefield 4 (7 inn.)

HADLEY — Derek Kluis launched a two-run homer and a double to lead the Hadley Buttermakers to a 15-4 win in seven innings over the Lakefield Horned Frogs in their season-opener on Sunday.

Kluis finished the day with three hits, three RBIs and four runs scored to pace the Buttermakers at the plate. Max Zwart and Alex Peterson each also singled twice.

Bryce Ahrendt threw the first four innings to improve to 1-0 on the season for Hadley, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Avery Weber and Owen Gillette each gave up one earned run on a pair of hits over one inning of relief, while Lincoln Swanjord closed out the game by striking out each of the three batters he faced in the seventh.

Hadley, now 1-0 on the season, will go on the road to take on Renner (S.D.) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Minneota 13, Benson 2

BENSON — Ryan Dalager tossed a complete game for the Minneota Mudhens in their season opener against the Benson Plowboys in Land O’ Ducks-Teal League play on Sunday. The Mudhens’ bats backed up Dalager and the team cruised to a 13-2 victory.

Dalager struck out 15 of the 32 batters he faced in his nine innings on the hill, limiting Benson to two earned runs on three hits and a walk. He also came up with a single, two walks and a pair of RBIs at the plate.

Austin Buysse led the Mudhens at the plate with two doubles and a single for three RBIs. Brock Buysse also had a double and two singles for two RBIs while Tate Walerius had a double, a single and a walk for two RBIs.

Walerius gave the Mudhens the lead with a two-run double in the top of the first, and also singled before scoring on an error to kick off a five-run third inning for the Mudhens. Buysse followed up with a three-run double with two outs to bring the Minneota advantage to 7-0.

A Brock Buysse RBI single gave Minneota an 8-0 advantage in the fourth before the Plowboys got on the board with a pair of sixth-inning runs. Yet, Minneota got a run back in the seventh and another pair in each of the final two frames.

Minneota improves to 1-0 with the win and next hosts the Rosen Express on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Milroy Yankees 11, Willmar 2

MILROY — The Milroy Yankees picked up an 11-2 win in their season-opener on Sunday against Willmar.

Parker Schmitt earned the win on the mound for the Yankees after pitching three innings of relief, striking out three batters. Isaac Schmitt struck out another eight batters in a four-inning start, while Aaron Mathiowetz closed out the game with two innings of relief.

Mathiowetz also picked up a pair of hits with a walk at the plate for the Yankees while Brandon Flock doubled and drew three walks. Dave Schmidt and Nathan Deutz each singled twice.

Milroy improves to 1-0 on the season and, following the postponement of its scheduled Wednesday game against Dawson, will next play at Worthington on Friday at 8 p.m.
