Dawson-Boyd golf sweeps Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Invitational

TYLER — Both the Dawson-Boyd girls and boys golf team earned a first-place finish in a multi-team meet at the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Invitational at the Tyler Golf Course Friday afternoon. The Blackjacks’ Lindsey Lund finished in first place on the girls side with a 7-over 78 out of 34 individual golfers.

For the girls meet, Dawson-Boyd finished 51 strokes ahead of Lac qui Parle Valley’s second-place 378, carding a 327.

RTR took third with a 384 out of the five teams. Minneota and Canby participated individually at the meet, but did not have enough qualifying golfers to field a team score.

The Blackjacks had four golfers finish in the top-five individually. Behind Lund, Kylar Hjelmeland shot an 80 for second place, while Alyssa Swedzinksi and Claire Statmoen finished with an 83 and 86 respectively, for fourth and fifth place.

Lund carded a birdie on hole 17, while Hjelmeland had one on hole 15 and Swedzinski with two on holes seven and 16.

RTR’s Izzy Thomas and Teigyn Oleary each had a good performance as well, finishing in a tie for eighth place with a 91.

Canby’s Maddison Richter came in tenth place with a 92.

On the boys side, the Blackjacks finished on top out of the nine teams with a 304, 19 strokes ahead of Lac qui Parle Valley and Sleepy Eye United’s tie for second place.

Canby placed sixth as a team with a 338, while Minneota and RTR took seventh and ninth place, respectively, carding a 344 and 370.

Individually out of 51 golfers, Dawson-Boyd’s Evan Mork and Drew Hjelmeland finished in a tie for third place with a 4-over 75.

Mork had a pair of birdies on holes four and seven, while Drew racked up a trio of birdies on four, seven and 17.

Carson Stratmoen followed closely behind in sixth place with a 5-over 76, carding birdies on holes one, seven and 10.

Canby’s Lane Citrowske finished in seventh place with a 78, tied with Luverne’s Will Bergman, while Dawson-Boyd’s Evan Menning took ninth with a 79.

Dawson-Boyd, Minneota and Canby will next meet again on Tuesday at the Tyler Golf Course for the Camden Conference Championship, with both teams beginning at 10 a.m.

RTR will next travel to Worthington on Tuesday for a Red Rock Conference meet at the Great Life Golf Course. Both teams are slated to start at 9:30 a.m.

Westbrook dual

WESTBROOK — The Wabasso girls golf team picked up a win, while the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys team came out on top in a dual meet Friday afternoon at the Rolling Hills Golf Club in Westbrook.

The HLOF/WWG girls team didn’t have enough individual golfers to field a team score, as Wabasso finished with a 243 for first place.

Individually, Ava Herdin and Cadey Brown from HLOF/WWG took first and second place for the girls meet with an 11-over 47 and 13-over 49 respectively.

Wabasso occupied the rest of the leader board, with Madelyn Fogelson taking third after carding a 58.

Alexis Jensen and Heidi Foy tied for fourth place, both finishing with a 61, while Allison Jordan, Brooklynn Beadell and Jade Plaetz placed sixth, seventh and eighth with a 63, 73 and 75.

For the boys’ meet, HLOF/WWG finished with a team score of 168 for first place, followed by Wabasso’s 217.

All of HLOF/WWG individual golfers took the first six spots of the leaderboard, led by Neil Kuehl’s 4-over 40.

Mason Ommen followed behind by a stroke for second place with a 5-over 41, and Brady Madison finished in third with a 43.

Dominic Lee, Connor Jackels and Kellen Hollahan placed fourth, fifth and sixth with a 44, 45 and 46, respectively.

For Wabasso, Brayden Guetter took seventh with a 47, with a birdie on hole two.

Avery Eis took eighth, while Chase Lensing and Paxten Guetter tied for ninth place. Spencer Salfer and Bradyn Weidemann placed 11th and 12th.

Wabasso will next head to the St. James Golf Course on Monday for a Tomahawk Valley Conference, both teams beginning at 10 a.m.

HLOF/WWG returns to the green on Tuesday at the Red Rock Conference meet in Worthington at the Great Life Golf Course, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
