MARSHALL — Mitchell Bouwman led the Marshall A’s baseball team to a dominant 11-2 win Friday evening at Legion Field after pitching a game-high 18 strikeouts through six innings, along with the A’s pulling ahead early behind a five-run second inning.

Marshall finished with 12 hits and no errors, and held Sacred Heart to just three hits with no errors.

Offense was contagious among the A’s, with AJ Toulouse, Connor Neubeck and Talan Plante all hitting triples. Plante also finished with a team-high three hits and three runs, along with a pair of RBIs. Neubeck led with a three RBIs.

Sacred Heart scored two runs in the top of the first inning to quickly get on the board, but Plante brought the A’s within one in Marshall’s first at-bat with a triple and running home of a Neubeck sacrifice out.

Along in Marshall’s second-inning rally, Plante hit a two-run RBI double on a line drive to right field to score Toulouse and Wichmann, who both got on base with walks.

Neubeck also hit a double on a fly ball to left field to score Plante, and Logan Tomasek singled on a line drive to right field with two outs to bring home Neubeck.

The third and fourth innings went scoreless for both teams, before Marshall scored a pair of runs in the fifth before another three in the sixth.

The final three innings also did not see a run for either team, as the A’s defense and pitching continued to limit Sacred Heart from getting any momentum going.

Karson Rowe also got time in the circle for an inning, and threw for a strikeout.

Cody Wichmann pitched the final two innings and finished with four strikeouts and one walk.

Marshall now starts the season 2-0, who also picked up a 5-1 season opener win on Sunday over Willmar.

The A’s will return to the diamond when they next host the Raymond Rockets on Sunday with a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Starting at $3.95/week.
