Boe, Lakers win 4th 3A title in a row
WORTHINGTON — Carson Boe and Lane Arends finished as the top two individuals in the second day of the Section 3A boys golf tournament on Friday at Great Life Golf & Fitness. The dynamic duo of Lakeview led the Lakers to their fourth consecutive section title and state tournament berth.
The win also marks Boe’s fourth consecutive individual section title and fifth consecutive state tournament berth as an individual. He had beaten out the runner-up by 11 or more strokes each of the three years prior to Friday’s championship, and as an eighth grader, he finished third behind Canby senior Jake Wagner to still qualify for the state meet as an individual.
This time around, Boe finished with a two-day total of 146. He shot a 3-over 74 on the first day of competition on Wednesday, notching three birdies and nine pars, but upped his game to close the tournament with a 1-over 72 on Friday.
Boe was 2-under through his first seven holes and closed out his round with six consecutive pars.
Lane Arends had been a section medalist each of the last few years but upped his game to finish as the individual runner-up this time around as a senior. He entered the day in second place with a 5-over 76 on Wednesday and shot an 8-over 79 to hold on to his spot. Arends’ round was generally steady; while he didn’t record any birdies, he went more than one stroke over par just once and recorded 11 pars.
Lakeview finished with a team score of 651, putting them well ahead of runner-up Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 685. Minneota and Canby also placed third and fourth at 687 and 693.
Landon Teske finished the first day of competition in 30th place, tied with teammate Koven Neuman, but surged up the leaderboard on Friday. After shooting a 95 on the first day of play, Teske shot an 8-over 79 on the second, tied for the fifth-lowest round of the day.
Teske’s performance, highlighted by a pair of back-9 birdies and six pars on the front nine, allowed him to jump 19 spots to an 11th-place finish.
Ledgen Javens rounded out the Laker scores in 14th place with a 176. The Lakeview seventh grader shot a 91 on Wednesday and closed out the tournament with a 14-over 85.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Alex Munson was an individual runner-up in 2023 and put together another strong showing on Friday. His 4-over 75 was the second-lowest round of the day to Boe’s 72, helping him to a third-place finish at 156 and earning him his third state tournament berth as an individual.
Minneota’s Owen Dalager, Canby’s Jack Abrahamson and Heron Lake Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Neil Kuehl each also earned individual state tournament berths. Dalager tied Munson for third place while Abrahamson and Kuehl finished sixth and seventh with scores of 161 and 169, respectively.
Minneota eighth grader Blayze Hulzebos was the first golfer out of the individual slots, finishing eighth with a two-day score of 170 after shooting an 8-over 80 on Friday. Jase Sorensen also finished 11th for Minneota with a 174, dropping five spots after shooting a 20-over on Friday, while Randy Sorensen rounded out the Viking scorers in 30th at 193.
