NEW ULM — The Marshall track and field teams each earned runner-up finishes at a seven-team meet in New Ulm on Tuesday. The boys scored 99 points to finish second to Redwood Valley’s 153, while the girls scored 112 points to trail only Tri-City United’s 159.

New Ulm took third on the boys side with 78 points while Redwood Valley rounded out the girls podium with 83 points. 

Hamish Ahmed earned the boys’ lone first-place finish, reaching a distance of 42-8.5 in the triple jump. On the girls side, Paige Gillingham won the shot put at 37-01, Brooklyn Purrington won the High jump at 5-00 and Aysia Miles, Chioma Onyeaghala, Autumn Deutz and Gillingham won the 4×100-meter relay at 42.03.

Jack Meier also was an individual runner-up in the discus and high jump while Mykel Paulsen, Kohen Holcomb and Ahmed placed second in the 800, 1600 and long jump respectively.

For the girls, Taleigha Bigler was the runner-up in the 400 and 1600 meters, while Chioma Onyeaghala, Peyton Boeck and Katelyn Leibfried were runners-up in the long jump, 800 meters and 3200 meters.

The Marshall track and field team now prepares to compete at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s events will start at 3 pm. while Saturday’s are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
