Tigers swim and dive wins Big South Championship

The team consists of Alexandra Brown, Mauren Brusven, Amber Castor, Alana Condezo, Zanovia Deputie, Autumn Deutz, Madison Gehrke, Raya Goergen, Alayna Gruhot, Maren Hasse, Lydia Hastad, Briana Hernandez, Leah Hybbert, Cami Kaas, Joleigh Kesteloot, Rose Lanoue, Hailey Larsen, Anna Maria Michael, Finley Pelz, Aaliyah Podratz, Emery Podratz, Grace Rokeh, Avery Schauman and Sydney Streicher.

ST. PETER — The Marshall girls Swim and Dive team were crowned Big South Conference Champions on Saturday, with a team score of 501 points and beat out St. Peter with 441 points and Tri City united with 252. 

The Tigers had a handful of individual winners. Finley Pelz won two individual events taking the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:04.29 time and the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.99, which bridged a six second gap between St. Peter who followed at 1:14.77. 

Alana Condezo finished second in the 200-yard freestyle behind Pelz with a 2:07.79 time. 

Autumn Deutz won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.40, and Aaliyah Podratz finished shortly behind in third at 28.23. 

Grace Rokeh took first place in the 100-yard freestyle race, with a time of 59.61. 

Another first place achievement was given to Hailey Larson, who won the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:58.76 finishing time. Alex Brown placed third at 6:19.21. 

Marshall placed first overall in the 400-yard relay crossing the line at 3:58.88, swam by Deutz, Rokeh, Pelz and Condezo. 

The Tigers performed well overall in the other relay competitions, taking second in both the 200-yard free and medley relays as well. 

Duetz, Trista Landsom, Sarah Coe and Adela Madson grabbed a 1:48.17 time in the 200-yard free race, just milliseconds after St. Peter’s 1:48.13 first place time. 

For the 200-yard medley race, Larsen, Brown, Podratz and Leah Hybbert finished with a 2:14.71 time, where St. Peter took first at 2:06.85. 

Marshall will take its good momentum and next travel to Hutchinson on Nov. 7 and 9 for the Section 3A championship meet.
