Tiger boys win Meet of Champions
ALEXANDRIA — The Marshall boys cross country team won the Alexandria Meet of Champions on Saturday at Arrowwod Resort, eding out Mounds View by 4 points for the Tigers. The girls team also competed at the meet, finishing 11th. The boys meet featured 21 teams while the girls meet featured 20.
Sam Deutz was the top Tiger on the day, placing fifth out of 143 individuals with a time of 15:49, placing him just 0.3 seconds behind Sioux Falls Washington’s Cole Reilly.
Roseville Area’s Robert Mechura won the meet at 15:22, followed by Annandale’s Sal Wirth at 15:27.1 and Perham’s Bjorn Anderson at 15:42.4.
On the girls side, Katelyn Leibfried was the Tigers’ top finisher with her time of 19:34.4 placing her in 12th place, also 0.3 seconds back of Northfield’s Anna Forbord in 11th.
Mounds View’s Linnea Ousdigian won the girls meet at 17:49.4 while Monticello’s Isabel Mahoney and Fergus Falls’ Cassie Wellman clocked in at 17:51.8 and 18:20.8.
The Marshall boys put together a team score of 92, beating out Mounds View’s 96 and Stillwater Area’s 103. The Marshall girls put together a team score of 260. St. Paul Highland Park won the meet with 80 points, followed by Mounds View’s 101 and Perham’s 143.
Kohen Holcomb and Landon Marthaler took 18th and 19th place for Marshall at 16:37.0 and 16:37.5. Finishing shortly behind them, Josh Leibfried placed 23rd at 16:46.4 while Keagen Anderson closed out the Tiger scorers at 16:49.3.
Oakley Schneekloth was the Marshall girls’ No. 2 runner, placing 44th at 20:28.4, while Landrey Graven placed 57th in the field of 145 at 20:52.1.
Kaitlyn Soupir placed 69th for Marshall at 21:08.9 while eighth grader Ayanna Flowers was the Tigers’ final scorer in 86th place at 21:34.1. Both Soupir and Flowers set personal bests with their times.
The Tigers’ boys and girls teams will next race on Wednesday at Benson Park in North Mankato.
