WORTHINGTON -- The Marshall boys soccer team picked up a big road win on Thursday night, claiming a 2-1 victory over the Worthington Trojans.
"It feels good to win at their place. I don't think we ever have before," Marshall head coach Tony Correa said.
Marshall goalkeeper Roberto Garcia Lopez stood on his head in the victory. After allowing a go-ahead goal for Worthington in the 15th minute, Garcia Lopez stood on his head for the rest of the night and finished with 14 saves.
In the 23rd minute, Moo Gay received a pass on a long-ball send from Isaiah Argueta. The Trojans stopped Gay on the breakaway, but fouled him in the box in the process. Awarded the penalty kick, gay capitalized with an equalizer into the bottom left corner of the net.
With the game tied, the Tigers were awarded possession of the ball on a penalty about 30 yards out from the goal.
Nearly as soon as the ball hit the ground after the official dropped it in the spot, Argueta passed the ball downfield toward a flanking Jasiel Flores. Flores then kicked the ball again over the middle and, after a Trojan defender deflected the pass, Sabino Us was Johnny-on-the-spot to gather the ball and tip it in for what would be the game-winning goal with 53rd minute.
Us has now scored in each of the Tigers' matchups against Worthington this year, also accounting for Marshall's lone goal in a 4-1 loss at home earlier in the season.
Marshall improves to 8-2-0 with the win. They'll look to ride the high from Thursday's game into today, when they host Moorhead at 6 p.m.
