No. 6 Canby 3, No. 7 MACCRAY 2

CLARA CITY — After falling to the seventh-ranked MACCRAY Wolverines at the Class A Showcase over the weekend, the No. 6 Canby Lancers got a revenge win on Thursday night. The Lancers dropped the first two sets 25-19, 28-26, but didn’t get discouraged and claimed three straight victories — 26-24, 25-20, 15-9 — to claim the match in five.

TMB 3, KMS 1

KERKHOVEN — For the first time since Aug. 27, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team is above .500. The Panthers won their season-opener against Red Rock Central before facing a gauntlet schedule at the Southwest Challenge, dropping five straight games to opponents such as Class A No. 1 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Class 4A No. 6 Prior Lake.

Yet, after the early-season struggles, TMB has shined down the stretch. Their surge continued on Thursday night when they defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in four sets, dropping the first set 25-16 before rattling off 25-16, 25-12, and 25-17 wins.

Allison Edwards set up the TMB hitters with 28 set assists while Melaina Ankrum, Braelynn Kirk and Allie Adams totaled eight kills each.

In the back row, Kirk had nine digs while Ankrum and Viessman each added another six. Head coach Heather Kamrud-Rice also noted that Piper Freburg’s didn’t have flashy dig numbers, but the defensive plays she made were big ones.

TMB, now 10-9 on the season, will look to keep climbing the section standings when it hosts Lakeview (7-8) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Wabasso 3, Lester Prairie 0

WABASSO — Coming off of two losses in a weekend tournament in Burnsville last weekend, the Rabbits have gotten back on track and secured another win Thursday night in three sets in addition to Tuesday’s 3-1 victory.

Wabasso did not allow Lester Prairie to come within single digits, in set scores of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-11.

Audrey Johnson was strong in the back row and from the servicing line to pace Wabasso in the right direction. She tallied a team-high six service aces and nine digs. Sara Carlson followed with five digs, and also paced the offense with 19 total assists.

Camryn Irlbeck led the team with seven kills, while Alivia Olson and Leah Mathiowetz collected five apiece. Irlbeck also had three solo blocks on the night.

Wabasso, 16-7, has a quick turnaround, as they travel to Redwood Valley this afternoon for a 12:30 p.m. game.

DAWSON — Despite tight competition in the first two sets, Dawson-Boyd fell to Renville County West in three sets Thursday night at home.

The Blackjacks fell just short in the first two sets of 25-21 and 25-22, but RCW pulled away in the third 25-12.

Reese Johnson led the way with 12 kills, and Addy Tufto followed with 11. Bailey Bothum set up the Blackjacks on offense with a team-high 17 assists. Tufto, Johnson, Claire Stratmoen and Kadyn Perkins each tallied a block in the night.

Defense was managed by Natayah Ritter with five digs, while Bothum and Kylar Hjelmeland followed with three.

Dawson-Boyd will look to snap its losing streak and get back in the win column when it travels to No. 7 on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

A/E 3, RRC 0

ADRIAN — After snapping its four-match skid with a come-from-behind win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey on Tuesday, the Red Rock Central couldn’t build on the momentum of its five-set victory when it took on Adrian-Ellsworth on Thursday. While the match got progressively more competitive, the Dragons swept the Falcons 25-10, 25-13, 25-21.

Ally Linder and Abby Evans led the RRC hitters with seven kills each while Natasha Erickson recorded 21 set assists. Evans’ seven digs were also second only to Maia Scheffler’s 11.

Shylin Hagert tallied six blocks at the net.
