Granite Falls defeats Wabasso to play in regional tournament

GRANITE FALLS – The No. 8 Wabasso Jaxx fell to the No. 6 Granite Falls Kilowatts 3-2 in a must win play-in game Saturday night. Winner earned the last spot in the upcoming Region 4C Tournament. 

The Kilowatts took the early lead 3-0 in the bottom of the third, and the Jaxx scored their runs in the top of the third and ninth. Wabasso’s Adryen Tietz was the winning pitcher, throwing at the mound the entire night allowing three runs, seven hits but throwing 10 strikeouts. It was his sixth double digit strikeout game this season. Bryce Sneller pitched the first four innings for Granite Falls and Nikson Knapper relieved him for the rest of the game. Each of them respectively allowed one run, three hits and threw two strikeouts. 

Chase Irlbeck and Josh Goetter scored the runs for Wabasso, while Tietz and Carter Goetter each had two hits and an RBI. 

Cody Dahlager, Jake Odegard and Jordan Odegard had the three runs for Granite Falls. Jake also had two hits and an RBI. 

Both teams were fighting for the last play-in spot, as the top four seeds in the Corn Belt League automatically secured their place. Granite Falls will now play in a single elimination game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Willmar against County Line’s No. 4 Sunburg. The rest of the tournament will be double elimination. 

The No. 4 Marshall A’s and No. 3 Milroy Yankees also will be in the tournament, starting play on Aug. 3 in Willmar.
