Granite Falls defeats Sacred Heart in 4C play-in game
GRANITE FALLS – The No. 6 Kilowatts defeated No. 7 Sacred Heart 3-0 on Friday night and is one step closer to earning a spot in the upcoming Region 4C Corn Belt League Tournament.
The top four spots in the tournament are held by Bird Island, Raymond, Milroy and Marshall, as the fifth team will depend on who wins the next two play-in games. Granite Falls will play Wabasso on Saturday at 5 p.m. at home in an attempt to earn the spot.
The game was scoreless for both teams until Granite Falls took the lead with two runs in the fourth, and added another in the sixth.
Bennett Knapper pitched seven innings for the Kilowatts with eight strikeouts, and Nikson Knapper pitched the last two throwing two strikeouts. They both held Sacred Heart scoreless the entire night.
Jordan Odegard led Granite Falls at the bat with two hits, while Colton Vien, Drew Almich and Jake Odegard each had an RBI respectively.
Dreyer Homan pitched nearly the entire game for Sacred Heart allowing the three runs but throwing 13 strikeouts, while Grayson Ahrenholz relieved him the last inning to add two strikeouts of his own.
Granite Falls moves to 6-9 on the season.
The 4C Tournament will take place in Willmar Aug. 3 and 4, and Aug. 9 and 11. The higher seed in each game will be the home team.
